The UFC may have had their fifth FX show this weekend, but there was plenty of other MMA action that graced this weekend.
As for the UFC, Antonio Silva knocked out a hobbled Travis Browne in the main event of the FX card. The co-main event saw Jake Ellenberger avenge an early-career loss with a unanimous decision win over Jay Hieron.
The last notable result was a knockout win for John Dodson over Jussier da Silva to become the No.1 contender in the flyweight division. He will now face Demetrious Johnson for the title.
Plus, on The Ultimate Fighter, Bristol Marunde overcame an awful weight cut to outwork Julian Lane for a unanimous decision.

Bellator Ends in Controversy…Again
Bellator 75 played host to the heavyweight quarterfinals, which saw its main event and last fight end in controversy yet again.
Before the main event, UFC veteran Vinicius Quieroz won with a nasty armbar submission over Mark Holata. Usual light heavyweight Rich Hale knocked out TUF veteran Mike Wessel in just over a minute to advance.
Strikeforce veteran Brett Rogers got another chance to fight in the spotlight but was absolutely routed by Alexander Volkov of Russia.
Then in the main event, Eric Prindle fought Thiago Santos again, following their no-contest last year that ended in a groin shot on Prindle. This time, Prindle landed an axe kick on Santos that nailed him right in the groin, which ended with a disqualification win for Santos. It was an odd ending to an odd rivalry.
Notably on the undercard, Chase Beebe knocked off David Harris with a unanimous decision. It is Beebe’s fourth straight win and could earn him a future spot in a Bellator tournament.
Brazilians Struggle in One FC Title Fights
In the main event of One FC, Shinya Aoki showed Arnaud Lepont he wasn’t in the Japanese fighters league by triangle-choking Lepont to sleep in just over a minute. It erased the memory of Aoki‘s last fight, in which he was destroyed by Eddie Alvarez.
In the inaugural lightweight title fight, Zorobabel Moreira carried much momentum with him in the fight against Kotetsu Boku. That couldn’t save him, as Boku claimed the title with a third round knockout of the Brazilian prospect.
In the inaugural bantamweight championship fight, Leandro Issa similarly faltered in a rematch against Soo Chul Kim. Kim knocked out Issa in the second round to claim the belt.
Knockout artist Melvin Manhoef stuck to his normal game of breaking people’s faces when he knocked out Ryo Kawamura in the first round. It is his 24th knockout in 26 wins.
In the bantamweight tournament, Jens Pulver, Kevin Belingon and Masakatsu Ueda all advanced to the semifinals. Pulver won a technical decision over Ya Fei Zhao, Belingon knocked out Yusup Saadulaev, and Ueda won a unanimous decision over Min Jung Song.
Invicta FC Continues to Spotlight Exciting Women’s MMA
Invicta MMA had its first-ever belt on the line on Saturday, as Jessica Penne met Naho Sugiyama. Penne would claim the inaugural title in the second round with a beautiful triangle over the Japanese star.
Also, Barb Honchak, Vanessa Porto and Michelle Waterson would all wins decisions in their respective bouts. Waterson‘s fight with Lacey Schuckman was especially exciting, so if you missed it, try finding it on the web.
Winner by submission on the night were Shayna Baszler (rear-naked choke), Cat Zingano (rear-naked choke), Ediane Gomes (rear-naked choke) and Stephanie Frausto (guillotine choke). These wins were all impressive and showed that the ladies have ground games too.
Finally, a number of women on the card won their fights by knockout. Leslie Smith won her rematch with Kaitlyn Young, securing her in a mounted crucifix for the referee stoppage.
Julia Budd, Carla Esparza and Joanne Calderwood were also winners by knockout, showing that the card was full of excitement and finishes.
Superior Challenge Returns After Hiatus to Give Swedish Fans a Treat
Superior Challenge in Sweden played host to several notable fights this weekend, including the headliner between top Swedish talent Ilir Latifi and hard-nosed Brazilian Jorge Oliveira.
After a close fight, Latifi came out on top with the unanimous decision.
Also on the card, UFC veterans Marcus Davis and David Bielkhaden fought. Davis routed the Swedish star via unanimous decision, which is his fourth win in five tries since being handed his pink slip from the UFC.
Lastly, UFC veteran James McSweeney lost again by TKO to Matti Makela. Both men’s records linger around the .500 mark, but many expected McSweeney to earn the nod, which obviously didn’t happen.
CFA 8 Streams on Facebook, Gives Fans Decisions
Down in Florida, CFA put on a decent card with notable names all around.
TUF alumnus Charles Blanchard lost a unanimous decision to journeyman Frank Carrillo. Also, Bellator veteran Toby Imada lost a unanimous decision to Luiz Firmino in the co-feature, which will be a setback for Imada.
In the main attraction, underrated Valdir Araujo defeated UFC and Strikeforce veteran Paul Bradley via split decision. It is a big win for Araujo who has quietly built up a nice looking resume.
“Batista” Struggles, but Wins His MMA Debut
It wasn’t pretty folks, but Dave Bautista, known to wrestling fans as Batista, won his MMA debut. He did so by beating dump truck Vince Lucero by referee stoppage late in the first round. He looked amateur in his fight but nonetheless won his first pro fight.
Also on that card, UFC veterans David Loiseau and John Howard earned TKO wins. Howard has now won four straight since being cut, so he could be hearing his name back in the UFC in the future.
Lastly, notable Mike Campbell won a grudge match with Gemiyale Adkins via unanimous decision. It was a fun fight for the WEC veteran, who is very underrated in the lightweight class.
