Edson Barboza was once the hottest prospect in MMA, but in one fell swoop, many have failed to bring his name up in topics of conversation.

Now, in the fallout of his first loss, Barboza is left pondering. The man who put him to sleep, effectively handing him his first loss, is a man that is still on his mind.

According to Tatame.com, Barboza is interested in rematching the resurgent Jamie Varner.

Varner, of course, is the man who knocked Barboza out in a late replacement fight. It was a fight that put the former WEC champ back on the map.

Of course, Barboza is a company man, so he will take whatever challenge they lay in front of him.

What’s gone is gone. But of course it would be a fight I’d like to do later, even because I didn’t do my best and he found me first, so I couldn’t show how prepared I was. But if I have another chance things will be different. I’d let go and really go for it.

A rematch between the two does not seem imminent, due to the decisiveness of the knockout.

What still remains to be seen is the ability to forget about a loss and continue on his journey. For Barboza, that is imperative following such a brutal knockout loss.

In the meantime, Barboza remains on the rebound. With a guy as exciting as himself, it should not be tough to keep his fans and continue throwing haymakers like he is accustomed to.

According to mmainterviews.tv, a much anticipated featherweight bout between Dennis Siver and Eddie Yagin has found a new home, following the cancellation of UFC 151.

Siver-Yagin was supposed to take place on the main card of 151, but will now likely be relegated to the undercard of UFC on Fox 5 in December. This was a fight that many fans were looking forward to, and now they will get to see it.

Siver is coming off a successful debut at 145 pounds, as he earned a decision victory over striking ace Diego Nunes. This took place at UFC on Fuel in Sweden, so Siver will have a decent layoff in between fights.

Meanwhile, Yagin is coming off his first UFC win at UFC 145, when he outpointed Mark Hominick on the judge’s scorecards. Yagin is also a striker like Siver, which could make this fight interesting.

This is the third UFC 151 fight to land on UFC on Fox 5, joining Abel Trujillo vs. Tim Means and Daron Cruickshank vs. Henry Martinez.

Also joining the UFC on Fox card, according to mmajunkie.com, will be a bantamweight scrap between former title challenger Scott Jorgensen and Ultimate Fighter alumnus John Albert.

This bout, which should be a good one, takes place on the undercard of the event. Both men are looking to get back into the win column.

Albert is looking to avenge two straight losses. The first was an exciting submission loss to Ivan Menjivar, the other was a controversial submission stoppage against Erik Perez.

Jorgensen is also looking to get back on track since losing two straight. Jorgensen was outgunned by Renan Barao, which was followed by a brutal knockout at the hands of Eddie Wineland.

UFC on Fox 5 takes place at the Key Arena in Seattle, WA on December 8.

UFC.com released the cast for the upcoming 16th season of The Ultimate Fighter Thursday afternoon.

Coached by rival heavyweights Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson, the season will host a cast of welterweights. The last time this happened was in the 13th season, which coincidentally enough, was also coached by heavyweights (Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos).

Here are the 32 cast members announced for the season, which will see them fight an opening round to earn a spot in the house.

Bristol Marunde, 30, Las Vegas, Nev.
Cameron Diffley, 27, Las Vegas, Nev.
Colton Smith, 25, Fort Hood, Texas via Ankeny, Iowa
Cortez Coleman, 30, Hugo, Okla.

Saad Awad, 23, San Bernardino, Calif.
Sam Alvey, 26, Murrieta, Calif.
Tim Ruberg, 30, Harrison, Ohio
Zane Kamaka, 23, Klaianae, Hawaii

In looking at the initial cast, there are several noticeable names among the fray.

There are several Strikeforce veterans that will fight to get into the house. Among those veterans are Bristol Marunde, best remembered for his late notice loss to Ronaldo Souza a few months back; Ricky Legere, Jr., who beat Chris Spang in his latest bout and Strikeforce debut; and Saad Awad, who is currently on a three-fight win streak since his lone Strikeforce loss.

Also on the cast are several notable Bellator veterans. Sam Alvey, who participated in the season five welterweight tournament, finds himself on the cast. Another Bellator tournament veteran, Mike Ricci, is best known as a training partner of Georges St. Pierre.

All in all, this looks like a pretty solid season with some underrated talent. With names like Diego Bautista and George Lockhart gracing the cast, there is a good chance that this will be a good season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Chael Sonnen: Would MMA Miss Him If He Never Fought Again?

Chael Sonnen‘s run at middleweight is currently dead. But, don’t be alarmed Sonnen fans, the West Linn, Oregon native is about to try his hand at light heavyweight, a weight class he used to fight at.

One would have to think that if this run is a failure, then Sonnen would likely hang up the gloves and call it a career.

I mean, think about it. He failed to capture the UFC Middleweight Championship twice. A failure to capture light heavyweight gold would completely derail any existing hype that the wrestling powerhouse has.

The biggest question, though, is if MMA would miss him if he never fought again.

Now, obviously, he would still have a career in broadcasting and being an analyst, which he currently does for Fox related events. However, that is not the same Sonnen as the Sonnen that is in fight mode.

Yes, Sonnen would still be quick witted and entertaining behind the microphone. I rather enjoy his commentaries on UFC Tonight and pre/post-fight broadcasts.

I, for one, would miss Chael immensely if he were to never fight for the UFC again.

Of course, he could still take verbal jabs at fighters from behind a suit and desk. But, he could never get the chance to back up that verbal dagger with his fighting skills.

His ability to sell a fight and anger his opponent are almost second to none. He has the uncanny ability to get under people’s skin and attract media attention with offensive verbal pokes.

Of course, some think that Sonnen’s fight style is boring, but these are probably the same people who call Anthony Johnson boring, Kenny Florian a “wall and staller” and Rashad Evans a gate keeper.

Sonnen does have an exciting style. Though he is primarily a wrestling-oriented fighter, he throws a lot of ground and pound and tries to finish fights.

I mean, watch his first fight with Anderson Silva. He could have coasted those last two minutes and won the UFC championship. Instead, he was looking to finish the champion and in doing so, got caught in the infamous triangle choke.

So, in this writer’s opinion, yes, the sport would miss Chael if he were to never fight again. The sport needs his personality and selling ability.

Some say Sonnen is bad for the sport, but there is one truth. He gets people talking about the sport.

Any type of advertising for the company is good. As long as people are talking about MMA and the UFC.
