Now entering UFC 130, Hamill has grown a lot as a fighter. Since his time on The Ultimate Fighter,Matt Hamill has become a better striker and with every match proves this point.
But no match is better suited to prove this point then his bout with Mark Munoz at UFC 96.
Hamill was primarily a wrestler and so was Munoz. Both fighters claiming NCAA wrestling titles. In this fight though, it was Hamill’s striking that got him the big W.
Lets fast forward to the end of the match with Hamill pressing Munoz closer and closer to the side of the cage. Hamill gives Munoz little area to escape and with one swooping high head kick, knocks out Munoz cold. A perfectly placed head kick straight on the jaw line of Munoz.
Munoz’s legs went limp and instantly dropped to the floor. As UFC commentator, Mike Goldberg, points out the sound the kick makes, just makes you want to cringe in pain.

Now of course, after this bout Hamill went on to face current light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Of course Jones dominated the fight but went on to lose the fight by disqualification for illegal 12-6 elbows.
With that said, Hamill is currently riding a five-fight win streak with his most recent wins coming against the likes of Keith Jardine and Tito Ortiz.
Hamill is set to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the main event this weekend at UFC 130.
Munoz after this fight dropped down to the middleweight division and since then has amassed a record of 5-1 in the middleweight division.
Munoz is currently riding a two-fight win streak and is set to face a dangerous Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, Demian Maia, at UFC 131 in June.

Jorge Santiago is no joke and is ranked eighth in the world. His striking may not be the stuff of the better fighters in the middleweight division, but he doesn’t need to rely on it.
Its Memorial Day weekend, and Stann is a former Marine himself. Its an important holiday to Stann. Fighting on this weekend is an added bonus to Stann. Stann is already a good fighter with striking that should be envied.
It’s a tough weekend and UFC 130 could be Stann’s coming out party. Already coming off of a win against Chris Leben, who by the way, is no joke in the standup game, where Leben was visibly rocked by Stann at least two to three times.
With a win this weekend, Stann could easily find himself among the top 15 or top ten middleweights in the world.
With Stann’s striking, this is a very good possibility.

UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill is only four days away as it is scheduled to take place on May 28, 2011, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this Saturday night.
With the originally scheduled rubber match between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard canceled due to injuries sustained by both fighters during training, the co-main event between Quinton Jackson and Matt Hamill has been pushed up to the main event, which still leaves us with a very impressive undercard.
One of the more controversial undercard fights and one of my personal favorite matchups is Brian Stann vs. former UFC fighter, Jorge Santiago.
Stann, the former U.S. Marine Captain whose military actions have been noted by President Bush, is coming off of a huge KO victory over UFC middleweight, Chris Leben.
While many big names were being thrown around as possible next opponents for Stann, one of which was Wanderlei Silva, the UFC matchmaker, Joe Silva and UFC President, Dana White chose an unlikely opponent to face Stann at UFC 130.
UFC 130 is just around the corner and is set to take place without a big-name battle. But even without the added hype of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard for the lightweight title, UFC 130 still has some battles left to be seen. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson…

But even without the added hype of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard for the lightweight title, UFC 130 still has some battles left to be seen.
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is getting close to having a shot at the light heavyweight title and could be set back with a loss to underdog, Matt Hamill.
Also, a battle between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson is set to take place that could help catapult either fighter further into the world heavyweight rankings.
UFC 130 also features top 10 middleweight, Jorge Santiago, who will be making his second stint in the UFC. Rick Story will be facing one of the top ranked welterweights in the world, Thiago Alves.

Strikeforce: Miami and a fight to be remembered between Strikeforce middleweights, Robbie Lawler and Melvin Manhoef.
In January of 2010, these two fighters squared off, and on a card featuring two title fights (Men’s welterweight and Women’s featherweight title bouts) and fighters like Nick Diaz and Herschel Walker, they stole the show that night.
Lawler was only a fight removed from defending his EliteXC middleweight belt, but Manhoef controlled the fight and was taking Lawler’s lead leg out. Manhoef was dialed in and just taking complete control of the fight with his striking.
In one second though, the fight dramatically changed in favor of Lawler. Lawler landed a nice punch to Manhoef’s dome, and that was it. One punch, one button and one fighter on the ground seeing stars and watching birds.
Lawler limped over to his corner, a sign of the damage Manhoef did and makes this victory all the more impressive.
Since this fight, Lawler has gone 1-2 with his losses coming against Renato Sobral and Ronaldo Souza. His only win came against Matt Lindland.
Manhoef has lost his last two fights since this incredible knockout and is on a three-fight losing streak. His other two losses came against Tatsuya Mizuno and Tim Kennedy.
