Mark Hunt has filed a civil lawsuit against the UFC, President Dana White and Brock Lesnar over his fight with Lesnar at UFC 200, claiming the parties colluded for an unfair competitive environment.

“I want the UFC to understand it’s not OK to keep doing what they’re doing,” Hunt told ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto. “They’re allowing guys to do this. They had a chance to take all the money from this guy, because he’s a cheater, and they didn’t.”

Lesnar failed two tests for performance-enhancing drugs, one before his fight with Hunt and another on the day of their bout. Making his return to the Octagon for the first time in nearly five years, Lesnar earned a unanimous-decision win over Hunt.

The decision was thrown out after Lesnar’s positive test, and the WWE Superstar was issued a one-year ban from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. However, Hunt has been increasingly public with his displeasure at allowing Lesnar to fight.

The UFC, which typically forces a competitor to undergo four months of drug testing prior to a return, waived that rule in negotiating Lesnar’s return. The promotion announced Lesnar would serve as the co-main event to UFC 200 on June 4, barely one month before the July 9 pay-per-view.

Hunt accuses the UFC, Lesnar and White of racketeering and fraud.

“What message is that sending to the boys and girls who want to be a fighter someday? The message is, ‘You just have to cheat like this and it’s OK.’ In society, if you commit a crime, you pay. Why is it different in MMA? It’s hurt the business, so it’s even worse. They need to be held accountable for this.”

Lesnar made $2.5 million in disclosed income for the bout, of which the NSAC took 10 percent ($250,000). Hunt, who made $700,000, sought Lesnar’s purse in negotiations with the UFC before filing a lawsuit. Christina Denning, Hunt’s lead attorney, offered this statement to Okamoto:

Once we found out the penalty was only 10 percent of his purse, we went back to the UFC and offered to accept [Lesnar’s] purse amount, less than the $250,000 penalty. We also wanted them to accept the clause moving forward.

Mark says the penalties aren’t harsh enough. What’s interesting is that the penalties are harsh enough on paper, they’re just not being enforced by the UFC.

Hunt is seeking “millions” in undisclosed damages. Neither White nor the UFC has commented on the suit.

Ronda Rousey broke her silence Monday, taking to Instagram with her first post since her Dec. 30 loss to Amanda Nunes:

Rousey had been radio silent since her first-round knockout loss to Nunes at UFC 207, save for a statement provided to ESPN.com’s Ramona Shelburne on Jan. 2:

Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes — even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly — it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda.

UFC announced it will cancel Fight Night 97 and reschedule the bout between Ricardo Lamas and BJ Penn, which was originally set for Saturday, Oct. 15, after Penn suffered a rib injury that leaves him unable to compete.

“I suffered a rib injury in training, and I apologize to the fans in Manila who were expecting to watch me compete,” Penn said in a statement. “I hope to be back in the Octagon soon.”

The severity of Penn’s injury is unclear at this time. The former lightweight and welterweight champion was scheduled to take on Ricardo Lamas in his first bout since losing to Frankie Edgar in July 2014.

Upset about not being given a rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 205, Jose Aldo has requested a release from his contract.

Aldo made his comments to the Brazilian website Combate (translation via

Conor himself said before that he wouldn’t give his belt away by any chance and nobody would take it away from him. After all this, I see I can’t trust any word from president Dana White, and who’s in charge of the promotion now is Conor McGregor. Since I’m not here to be an employee of McGregor, today I ask to cancel my contract with the UFC. When they offered me a fight with Frankie Edgar, Dana said that the winner would challenge McGregor or win the linear title, that he would lose his belt if he didn’t return to the featherweight division after his rematch with Nate Diaz. After being fooled so many times, I don’t feel motivated to fight in the UFC anymore.

Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar Suspensions Reportedly May Be Shortened

Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar, who each tested positive for banned substances before UFC 200, may face only a maximum one-year ban because the drug they took could have a “credible non-doping explanation.”

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting reported the news, citing United States Anti-Doping Agency’s policy. In most cases, fighters who test positive are subject to maximum two-year suspensions—one that in Lesnar’s case would keep him out of the Octagon well past age 40.

Both fighters tested positive for hydroxy-clomiphene, which is considered a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). It’s a drug that could theoretically be used to block the production of estrogen, related to a PED cycle.

Jones also tested positive for letrozole, which can be used to treat breast cancer.
