Jake Ellenberger is for real!

After a 53 second destruction of Jake Shields, Ellenberger enters the short list of contenders, and may have the best chance of anyone in the division to take out Georges St-Pierre.

It may be a matter of time before ‘The Juggernaut” gets his shot at UFC gold, and it’s time for him to go after another top name at 170, and attempt to add another name to his growing resume.

Here are five fights for Ellenberger to take next:

UFC Fight Night 25: What’s Next for the Losers?

The UFC is pretty consistent in giving fans at least one memorable fight each card, and there is no question that Jake Ellenberger’s destruction of Jake Shields will stay in the minds of everyone for months to come.

Overall, it wasn’t the best Fight Night card the organization has put on, and it seemed a little anticlimactic as the final Fight Night to air on Spike, but impressive performances by Ellenberger and Alan Belcher made the card memorable in its own way.

As much fun as it is talking about the winners, this article is all about the losers—and the best way for them to rebound.

After weeks of speculation, we are less then 24 hours away from the announcement of the first UFC on FOX main event.

UFC President Dana White promised to make a major announcement tomorrow and MMA Junkie has confirmed that the headliners of the FOX card will be revealed.

Dozens of matchups have been floating around as possibilities for the card, some more likely than others, but these five are some of the more intriguing.

UFC on Versus 5: Will Jim Miller Get a Title Shot (And Some Respect) with a Win?

What does Jim Miller have to do to get noticed?

He’s currently riding a seven-fight win streak that includes wins over a former TUF winner and one of the most hyped prospects in the division, he’s finished his last two fights in highly impressive fashion, and he’s sporting a 20-2 record with his only losses coming at the hands of the current champion and No. 1 contender.

Yet, somehow his fight with former WEC champion Ben Henderson has been subjected to co-main event status behind a fight between two guys coming off losses who are nowhere near title contention. Huh?

Not taking away anything from Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle, as they are both tremendously entertaining and will almost certainly provide us with a memorable fight on Sunday, but it makes no sense to have a potential No. 1 contender get second billing on a free TV card.

If Miller was a boring fighter, a case could be made to stick him behind some well known names, but he has done nothing but improve all aspects of his game as of late and his last couple fights have been highly entertaining.

If the UFC wants to build up contenders and marketable fighters in the lighter weight classes, this would seem like the perfect opportunity to do so. The fight is on free TV, there are plenty of other marketable names on the card (including Hardy and former TUF winner Amir Sadollah), and throwing a guaranteed slug-fest like Hardy-Lytle on before the main event would entice viewers to remain tuned in.

It seems like the UFC has dropped the ball with Miller so far, but if he wins this weekend, he deserves his shot at redemption against whoever comes out of the UFC 136 title fight.

He is a completely different fighter than the guy who lost to Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, and a win over a former WEC champion would add a huge amount of credibility to an already good resume.

Jim Miller has proven he belongs inside the Octagon with the best in the division. If he wins on Sunday, let’s hope he steals Joe Rogan’s microphone and demands a title shot from Dana White and Joe Silva.

Maybe the world will notice him then.

The UFC always makes their Fourth of July weekend card one of the best of the year, and this year might be the best they’ve ever had.

The first-ever UFC bantamweight title fight is going down this weekend, and we can’t ask for a better matchup than bitter rivals Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.

Throw in a guaranteed slugfest between Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva, plus what may be the final fight for Tito Ortiz inside the Octagon, and this may be the best card of 2011.

After an awesome preliminary lineup and three decently exciting fights to start the TV broadcast, I went into the main event of UFC on Versus 4 with low expectations.

I’ll be the first to admit when I’m wrong, and I was horribly mistaken when it came to the fight between Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo last night.

I recently threw the fight on a list of bouts that I expected to be boring this summer, saying that Kongo was going to out-wrestle Barry to a decision.

Two thoughts crossed my mind after the fight:

1. I’ve never been happier after I’ve been made to look stupid.

2. Where the hell did that come from?!?

While both fighters were a bit hesitant to throw in the first minute of the fight, Kongo started landing some leg kicks and Barry seemed to take them personally, chasing down his opponent.

When Barry dropped Kongo with a right hand, most believed the fight was nearing its end. After all, no one has the striking ability of Pat Barry in the division and Kongo has shown that he can be rocked by punches, (see Mir, Frank).

Barry started unloading on Kongo, rocking him at on the ground and then knocking him down a second time, and I found myself screaming at Dan Miragliotta to stop the fight before Kongo had to be carried out of the Octagon on a stretcher.

Lucky for MMA fans, (and I guess, Kongo) I’m not a referee.

Kongo got back to his feet for a second time and started backpedaling on wobbly legs, desperately trying to avoid taking another shot from the dynamite right hand of Pat Barry.

Barry got a little too reckless flying in for the finish and got caught with a beautiful combination that ended with a brutal uppercut from Kongo.

The uppercut landed flush, Barry hit the mat, and Kongo landed a couple follow up shots to seal it.

Game. Set. Match.

The second greatest comeback in UFC history happened last night, with Kongo’s come-from-behind win trailing only Anderson Silva’s final-round triangle from UFC 117. And while there are a million things to say about one of the greatest fights in UFC history, I’m going to stick with one.

I was wrong, and proud of it.
