A lightweight bout between Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (17-4, 1NC) and the ‘Thugjitsu Master’ Yves Edwards (41-18-1) for May 15 as part of the UFC on FX 3 card.

The bout was announced Tuesday night on the latest episode of “UFC Tonight” on FUEL TV.

UFC on FX 3 is expected to take place on May 15, 2012 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. No word on where the bout between Cerrone and Edwards might end up, but it’s likely that it could act as the main event or co-main event for the May show.

Cerrone had a six fight win streak stopped last December by Nate Diaz, after the two went three rounds in the “Fight of the Night” bout for UFC 141. Diaz would earn a unanimous decision over the ‘Cowboy’ at the Vegas event. The bonus was Cerrone’s ninth of his career and third straight. Previous to the loss, Cerrone earned wins over Dennis Siver, Charles Oliveira, Vagner Rocha, and Paul Kelly, with all bouts taking place in 2011 and all int he Octagon.

Edwards also enters the fight on a loss last December, having been defeated by Tony Ferguson at the TUF 14 Finale. Edwards record over his last three is 1-2, while his overall record in the Octagon stands at 9-4. The ‘Thugjitsu Master’ earned his last victory in October at the UFC on Versus 6 show, stopping Rafaello Oliveira with a head kick for the TKO finish at the Washington, D.C. event. Edwards previous loss, was via brutal knockout versus Sam Stout at UFC 131.
