“A lot of people thought I was gay,” UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva told Fighters Only Magazine when speaking about his childhood.

In a follow-up interview with Tatame, Silva says he thought it was “normal” to allow his sister to dress him up in women’s clothing and play with dolls.

“We would wear a dress, put on her shoes,” the UFC champion said frankly. “And because I am very vain about my appearance, and have a high voice, a lot of people were sure I was gay.”

Before any rumors get out of hand, Silva has been married to his wife, Dayane, for 15 years and has five children (three sons and two daughters), according to Bloody Elbow

Silva recently made headlines by volunteering to save UFC 151 by fighting a light heavyweight last minute, but by the time he made the offer to UFC president Dana White, the event had already been cancelled.

The 37-year-old Brazilian’s name has also remained a hot topic since he stated that he wants his next fight to be against UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Silva’s last Octagon appearance was in July, when he defeated arch nemesis Chael Sonnen for the second time at UFC 148.

The Spider is widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, having successfully defended his title a UFC record 10 times and currently riding a 16-fight win streak.

Does this news of Silva’s past change your opinion of this highly-skilled and entertaining fighter at all?
