Well, this is one way to spice up MMA Twitter on a non-MMA weekend.

Bellator champions Will Brooks and Patricio Freire did their part Friday afternoon to ensure that the fighting corner of social media didn’t go that quietly into only the second weekend this summer not to house a UFC event.

The whole thing started when a wayward jab from Freire, who owns the featherweight belt, struck a sour note with Brooks, Bellator’s lightweight champ. At first, it was just a little smack about the fact that Freire (24-2), who will attempt to beat challenger Daniel Straus for a third time, received top billing over Brooks (16-1) at Bellator 145, scheduled for Nov. 6 in St. Louis. Brooks faces Marcin Held in the evening’s co-main event.

But then Brooks responded, and responded. Then, he responded some more. Eventually the whole thing descended into what seemed like a genuinely hot place in front of any Twitter user who cared to look on. The event was documented by MMA Fighting, among others. It is also documented below (WARNING: language NSFW).
