Before the release of Chael Sonnen‘s book, The Voice of Reason: A VIP Pass to Enlightenment, which comes out Tuesday, the former UFC title challenger made an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast to talk about everything in the sport of mixed martial arts.
Rogan, the color commentator for the UFC, has featured fighters in past shows, including Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Bas Rutten and Ronda Rousey.
Sonnen is currently preparing to rematch UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148. Silva won their first bout by submission in what many consider to be one of the best comebacks in the history of the UFC. Sonnen dominated the action throughout, but was forced to tap when Silva applied a triangle choke with several minutes left in the fight.
“I don’t know if the human being is meant to do that,” Sonnen said of fighters going 25 minutes in the Octagon. “St-Pierre keeps taking a lot of criticism. Well, the reality is you are asking him to do a monumental task, which is to go hard for 25 minutes. Human beings get tired when they go for the kill so they got to time it right, and Georges does plan it right.”
Sonnen rebounded from the loss with two victories over Brian Stann and Michael Bisping. He submitted Stann and took Bisping the distance in a fight that many people thought could have gone either way.
Silva has also fought twice as well, defeating Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami. Both of his victories came by way of knockout to improve his overall UFC record to 14-0
UFC 148 will go down in Las Vegas on July 7 and also feature a rematch between former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. An interim title fight in the bantamweight division is also in play with Urijah Faber awaiting an opponent.
