The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes finalist and noted clown of the cage, Colin Fletcher, announced via his Twitter account on Monday that he has been released by the UFC.

Not too happy with the sudden news, here’s what “Freakshow” had to say on the matter:

Cue the sad, Pagliacci music as we bid adieu to this fan-favorite clown from across the pond.

While the release may have been a shock to Fletcher, who came into the UFC with an 8-1 record, it should not come as a surprise to most fans considering the promotion’s recent string of cuts.

The eccentric British mixed martial artist joins the promotion’s ever-growing list of ex-UFC fighters after going 0-2 during his first stint inside the Octagon, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to fellow TUF alum, Mike Ricci, at UFC 158 in Montreal this past March.

Prior to the recent defeat, “Freakshow” came up short against friend and fellow TUF: The Smashes finalist, Norman Parke, losing a lopsided unanimous decision at the show’s finale last December.

While Fletcher’s taste for the theatrical with his garish clown costumes has garnered him attention from fans around the world, his pair of lackluster performances earned the 30-year-old his pink slip from the UFC brass.

Even as the promotion continues to grow it’s global appeal—and especially after this past weekend’s successful European venture in Sweden for UFC on Fuel 9—“Freakshow’s quick exit from the world’s largest MMA promotion is evidence of how winning trumps all in the UFC’s current landscape.
