UFC President Dana White knows what could be at stake for Conor McGregor in his upcoming fight against Floyd Mayweather.
“Listen, if McGregor knocks him out he’ll be the biggest star in sports ever,” White said, per Damon Martin of Fox Sports.
The highly anticipated boxing match is set for Aug. 26.
McGregor is a significant underdog in his first professional boxing match against the 49-0 Mayweather, after transitioning from a career in UFC. According to Odds Shark, he is plus-375 to win, meaning a $100 wager nets $375 in winnings.
However, the odds have dropped since the announcement with many bettors putting money on McGregor, per David Purdum of ESPN.
With 18 of his 21 UFC wins coming by knockout, the Irish star has a chance to pull off the massive upset over one of the best boxers in history.
Considering ESPN recently ranked McGregor as the No. 25 most famous athlete in the world, a win in his biggest bout to date would certainly put him near the top of the list as White predicts.
