July 9’s monumental UFC 200 event from Las Vegas received two huge fights last night (March 30, 2016).
It was announced that Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor II will serve as the main event, while former 145-pound king Jose Aldo will meet top contender and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight title.
Despite the magnitude of those two fights alone, the card obviously still needs some filling out, and UFC president Dana White recently said that fans should expect to see a few women’s bouts tossed in:
“You should expect a couple. There will be a couple women’s fights at UFC 200,” White said on “SportsCenter.” “Actually, two or three maybe.”
As far as female fights go, perhaps the largest involve newly minted 135-pound title holder Miesha “Cup Cake” Tate.
Tate was able to pull off a spectacular rear naked choke victory over former champion Holly Holm earlier this month at March 5’s UFC 196.
That outcome immediately set up an intriguing Tate vs. Holm rematch, but it’s widely assumed that “Cup Cake” will next defend her title in a trilogy bout with former dominant champion Ronda Rousey.
It’s currently unclear when Rousey is aiming to return after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Holm last November, but either of these bouts would be massive.
Will Tate be competing at UFC 200, however? White left it open as a possibility:
“Could be,” White said with a laugh.
Former title challenger Cat Zingano recently hinted at an ‘epic’ summer return fight as well, and Cris “Cyborg” Justino could potentially make a quick turnaround given that her long awaited Octagon debut at May 14’s UFC 198 goes as planned.
Which female fighters would you like to see at UFC 200?
