UFC President Dana White would be interested in seeing a healthy Brock Lesnar come out of retirement and pick back up where he left off in the UFC.

Optimism is once again in the air following an interview with former WWE commentator Jim Ross, who recently informed Marc Raimondi of Fox Sports that Lesnar’s contract with WWE runs out after Wrestlemania 31 in March.

This could potentially open the doors for Lesnar to return to the UFC in 2015. There is also the chance that the former heavyweight champ re-signs with WWE, or he could simply opt to ride off into the sunset and wallow in the riches attained from years of hard work.

When speaking with Matt Parrino of UFC.com, White hinted that the door was always open if Lesnar wanted to return.

“I have a great relationship with Brock, we talk all the time,” White said. “I don’t know, we’ll see. If he wants to fight, he knows my number.”

Lesnar’s MMA career was a whirlwind journey that left more questions than answers.

In just his second professional fight, he was competing against MMA legend and former UFC champ Frank Mir. He then went on to defeat UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture for the heavyweight title a couple of bouts later.

After a pair of successful defenses, Lesnar was ousted by current champ Cain Velasquez. He retired from fighting a year later after losing to Alistair Overeem.

Towards the end of his UFC journey, Lesnar was diagnosed with diverticulitis, an intestinal disorder. The illness was one of the primary reasons for his decision to step away from the sport. It also likely took a bit of the wind out of his sails in later UFC performances.

What would Lesnar’s MMA career look like if he never got diverticulitis? How good would he have been if started training earlier?

These are the questions that we may never know. But White is still holding out hope to one day find out.

“It’s pretty amazing what he did and accomplished here while having diverticulitis,” said White. “It would be interesting to see a 100 percent healthy Brock Lesnar compete.”
