The boiling feud between Diego Sanchez and Conor McGregor is becoming reminiscent of Adrian Lyne’s psychological thriller, Fatal Attraction.
Things took a turn for the bizarre on Sunday when Sanchez tweeted a photo of a knife protruding out of a picture of Dublin’s favorite son.
The ad is a featurette for McGregor‘s main event bout against Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston on Sunday. UFC President Dana White recently confirmed during a media scrum for UFC 182, per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, that McGregor would be next in line for a featherweight title shot if he defeats Siver.
There are many in the MMA community, including Sanchez, who feels like the UFC has shown favoritism to McGregor, a promising pay-per-view star with a knack for cutting opponents to pieces with his tongue alone.
During an appearance on Ariel Helwani‘s The MMA Hour back in October, Sanchez called McGregor “disrespectful” and even challenged him to a fight despite both men being in completely different weight classes.
“I’m one of the guys that laid the bricks for this great career that he is having,” Sanchez said. “I was one of the ones that created the expansion for the sport. I helped build the foundation on this big building, and the guy is just disrespectful. He doesn’t respect that, and he doesn’t respect any of the other fighters in his division that have paid their dues.”
When receiving an opportunity to respond, McGregor told Helwani that Sanchez belonged “in Bellator with the rest of the has-beens.”
It’s all just talk for now, but there is undoubtedly the prospect of a potential catchweight fight in the future. Let’s just hope McGregor doesn’t have any pet rabbits running around.
We’d hate to see what Sanchez does next.
