Former highly ranked UFC lightweight Jim Miller will return to the Octagon at December’s UFC 168 event in a bout against Fabricio Camoes.
The promotion announced the bout via Twitter on Wednesday night.
Miller, 30, was on the verge of a lightweight title shot when he faced former World Extreme Cagefighting export Benson Henderson at UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle on August 14, 2011. But Miller lost an unanimous decision that night to Henderson, who would go on to defeat Clay Guida and ultimately capture the lightweight championship from Frankie Edgar the following year.
Since losing to Henderson, Miller has alternated wins and losses. His most recent match—a submission loss in a grueling bout with Pat Healy—was overturned and ruled a no-contest due to Healy‘s positive test for marijuana following the conclusion of the bout.
Camoes, 34, is a third-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Royler Gracie (himself a seventh-degree red and black belt). Camoes made his UFC debut back at UFC 106, going to a rare draw with Caol Uno after Camoes had a point deducted from his score due to an illegal kick to Uno‘s head. Camoes would lose his next bout to Kurt Pellegrino before winning three consecutive fights.
Camoes‘ last appearance came at UFC 148 in a losing effort to Melvin Guillard.
UFC 168 takes place December 28 in Las Vegas and is headlined by middleweight champion Chris Weidman defending his title against former champion Anderson Silva. Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate, coaches for this season of The Ultimate Fighter, face off in the co-main event.
