The audio from the 911 call placed following former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones‘ alleged hit-and-run accident has hit the Internet. You can hear the call courtesy of MMA Digest‘s YouTube channel.
An alarmed woman can be heard on the call, describing the scene of the three-car accident and discussing how she saw Jones flee the scene. “The guy just hopped off into a yard…he took off running, he’s running, jumping over fences,” she said. “He’s going over into a gated community.”
From there, it shows the badly damaged vehicles and the police investigating the scene and speaking with the pregnant woman who was operating the car Jones’ rented SUV struck. It also shows the previously leaked footage from the police body cameras, which showed police searching Jones’ vehicle and discovering marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia and condoms. The woman reportedly suffered a broken arm and was taken to the hospital by her husband after the accident. Jones would turn himself in to police the next day.
The entire case has been a huge hit for Jones on both a personal and professional level. He is currently facing felony charges stemming from the incident and was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight title in April and suspended indefinitely. The belt has since been given over to his latest rival, Daniel Cormier, who defeated Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187. He also lost his high-profile sponsorship with the UFC’s soon-to-be-exclusive outfitter, Reebok.
It is not yet known when or if Jones will appear before a judge to battle the charges. There is no timetable at this time for his return, and his manager, Malki Kawa, has speculated that he may be finished with mixed martial arts.
That said, a Jones return still feels like something of an inevitability, and an immediate title shot is already on the table for him. Keep an eye on Bleacher Report for more news as it breaks.
