Ronda Rousey Is a Big Fan of ‘Badass’ Joanna Jedrzejczyk After UFC: Berlin

UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey was more than a little impressed by Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s performance at UFC Fight Night 69. Speaking on Twitter, the Rowdy one talked up her fellow female champ in a big way:

WOW!!!!! @joannamma such a badas…

UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey was more than a little impressed by Joanna Jedrzejczyk‘s performance at UFC Fight Night 69. Speaking on Twitter, the Rowdy one talked up her fellow female champ in a big way:

Jedrzejczyk earned the praise with her impressive win over Jessica Penne on Saturday. The strawweight champ made good on her heavy favorite status by downright mauling the challenger, stuffing numerous takedown attempts while dominating striking exchanges. Penne would absorb a huge amount of punishment—and would lose a whole lot of blood—before the ref waved the fight off in the third round.

The Polish kickboxer has been heavily pushed since capturing the UFC title in March. A skilled striker, she has wisely polished up her takedown defense to the point where she can comfortably contend with high-level grapplers like Carla Esparza and Claudia Gadelha. The result? Consistently strong performances against formidable competition.

Her success has drawn more than a few comparisons to Rousey, and Jedrzejczyk has welcomed it. In an interview with Bleacher Report’s Hunter Homistek, she said, “Rousey’s great. She’s an amazing person, the greatest fighter…I’m going to be a Ronda Rousey in the strawweight division.”

While they may not have a similar combat sports background and hail from different hemispheres, Rousey and Jedrzejczyk have one thing in common: It is hard to imagine them losing their titles any time soon. Rousey is the most dominant fighter in the UFC today, with a perfect 11-0 record—with 10 of those wins coming via first-round knockout or submission—xand Jedrzejczyk is a stylistic nightmare for the entire strawweight top-10.

Rousey is currently slated to face Bethe Correia in the main event of UFC 190 in one of the year’s most bitter grudge matches. There is no obvious next-in-line for Jedrzejczyk, but make sure to keep an eye on Bleacher Report for more news as it becomes available.
