Roy Nelson will be back in action on Saturday after coaching against Shane Carwin on The Ultimate Fighter 16. Unfortunately, due to injury, Shane Carwin won’t be standing across the Octagon from Nelson.
Instead, Matt Mitrione has stepped in as a replacement opponent for Nelson’s appearance at the season finale. Mitrione was booked for a fight with Phil De Fries, but jumped at the opportunity to compete against the fighter who won The Ultimate Fighter 10, the competition that allowed him a UFC roster spot.
In addition to the main event between the reality series coaches, Saturday’s event will also feature the finals of the season’s welterweight tournament. Colton Smith and Mike Ricci breezed through most of their competition on the way toward a meeting with one another that will earn the winner a guaranteed six-figure contract with the world’s top MMA promotion.
Before Saturday’s event, which will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the fighters will hit the scales on Friday at 5 p.m. ET. Video of the weigh-ins will be streamed live on the above video player.
