When Urijah Faber steps into the Octagon on July 2 to fight Dominick Cruz for Cruz’s bantamweight title, he will have friend and business partner Jon Jones cheering for him, but not expecting him to dethrone Cruz.

Jones, recently spoke to SB Nation on a number of topics, one of which was the upcoming fight at UFC 132 between Faber and Cruz.  Jones told Thomas, “Urijah’s my friend and business partner, and I’m definitely rooting for him to win.”

Jones’ heart and his head seemed to be at different places as he added, “If I actually had to put my money on it I would think that Dominick Cruz would win the fight. He’s been winning very impressively and he seems to be always improving, Urijah’s last two fights haven’t been finishes.”

Cruz enters the title bout on an eight fight winning streak. In fact, his first and only loss came at the hands of Faber, back in March of 2007, when the two met for Faber’s WEC featherweight title. Faber won that bout via first round submission.

Cruz captured the WEC bantamweight title with a win over Brian Bowles in March of last year and when the WEC was absorbed into the UFC, he became the UFC champion.

Faber enters the fight with a record of 25-4.  Since losing his WEC title to Mike Brown in June 2009, Faber has had an up and down time in the cage, going 4-2 since that loss.

While Jones was being honest in his assessment of the Cruz versus Faber fight, that opinion could result in some awkward business meetings for Faber and Jones.

For now it appears that the dancing days for Faber and Jones may be on hold.
