Nick Diaz squandered the biggest opportunity of his career.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Stockton “Bad Boy” no-showed a pivotal pre-fight press conference promoting his UFC welterweight championship match against titleholder Georges St-Pierre, who is well regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in our sport.

It was the second day in a row that Diaz skipped on his contractual duties to the promotion and for that, UFC President Dana White removed him from the UFC 137 headliner against the French-Canadian, promoting Carlos Condit to the main event tilt in his stead.

The Greg Jackson product Condit was originally slated to face B.J. Penn in the co-main event of the evening, however “The Prodigy” is now left with no opponent in sight.

It’s been suggested that Diaz could now step in to face Penn, and while it wouldn’t erase the memory of his immature actions, it would certainly help right the ship. 

So why should anyone now be interested in a fight between the two welterweight notables? Here are five reasons.
