A great battle was settled inside the Octagon at UFC 145, but according to Rashad Evans, the story is not over.
Jon “Bones” Jones is one of the best young fighters in the world, but many thought that Evans could be the person to take away his light heavyweight championship.
This was not the case.
Although it was a back-and-forth contest at the beginning, Jones took control and won by unanimous decision.
Evans was not able to defeat his former friend and training partner. What made it worse is that his former coach, Greg Jackson, remained in Jones’ corner.
The embarrassment of the loss caused Evans to stay angry and call for a rematch.
“I still don’t like him. He fought a good fight and I have respect for him as a fighter…but we will fight again.”
Evans clearly believes he is the better of the two, and he wants to have redemption. The problem is that this will not come too easily.
Jones is set to defend his title against Dan Henderson in his next bout. Henderson might be older, but the veteran still packs a hard punch and can be a formidable opponent.
If the champion wants to continue his reign at the top, he needs to keep his focus and continue getting better. He does not need to remain in childish feuds.
It easy to understand Evans’ anger in the situation, but he also needs to move on and not let this be the defining moment of his career.
The two need to either make up quickly or forget about each other forever.
