While MMA fans wait for the first UFC pay-per-view event in almost two months, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former champion Rashad Evans are preparing for their most important fight to date.
The former teammates have been waiting nearly a year to fight each other, and the upcoming episode of Ultimate Insider will allow fans to see both go face-to-face and exchange verbal blows before their anticipated bout at UFC 145.
It will be Evans’ first chance at reclaiming the belt he lost to Lyoto Machida in 2009. Since that fight, he has defeated Quinton Jackson, Tito Ortiz, Thiago Silva and Phil Davis.
Originally scheduled to face Rua at UFC 128, Evans was forced to pull out due to an injury and was replaced by his teammate, Jones.
Jones would defeat the Brazilian muay-thai fighter to win the UFC light heavyweight title and become the youngest champion in UFC history.
“Bones” Jones would seal off one of the most impressive years for any fighter when he took out former champions Jackson and Lyoto Machida after defeating Rua and Ryan Bader. He won every fight by knockout or submission.
The pay-per-view event will go down on April 21 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Other bouts on the card include Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills, Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell, Michael McDonald vs. Miguel Torres, Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin and Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio.
