Carlos Condit is still the second-best welterweight mixed martial artist in the world.
His performance at UFC 154 proved he is every bit as good as advertised—and then some. He came painstakingly close to robbing Georges St-Pierre of his welterweight title in the third round of their fight, and he showed more worth off his back than any of GSP’s opponents in the past five years.
Condit truly embodies the term “mixed martial artist,” but what makes him truly awesome is the fact that his heart and determination are as impressive as his diverse skill set. He is not afraid to take a beating in order to deliver one, and he never stops looking for a finish or trying to advance his position, no matter how dire his circumstances may be.
After losing the biggest fight of his life and failing to capture the UFC’s welterweight title, what is next for “The Natural Born Killer”? Does the road stop here?
I don’t think so.
Condit is still a beast, and he can still beat every welterweight not named Georges St-Pierre. Maybe wrestlers like Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks could give him problems, but overall, Condit is still the superior mixed martial artist and has the tools to end their nights as well.
In a world where Johny Hendricks, Josh Koscheck or Jake Ellenberger does not clip him with a hard shot and end his night early, yes, I think Carlos Condit will work his way back to a title fight at some point in the future. He is just too good to not be in those talks.
Condit may have failed on his first attempt at UFC gold, but I fully expect to see him back in that moment swinging for glory in the not-so-distant future.
