Ronda Rousey is set to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight title for the first time, and she will try to do so against Liz Carmouche in the UFC 157 main event.
After becoming the final Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, Rousey was awarded her belt upon the announcement that female fighters would be joining the UFC roster.
Carmouche, meanwhile, has won two straight fights and campaigned hard to be Rousey‘s first opponent. While Carmouche got her wish, she will now have her hands full with the dominant 135-pound titleholder.
In addition to the women’s bantamweight title fight, an important light heavyweight fight between Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson will also take place at UFC 157.
Machida and Henderson are currently considered the top two contenders in the 205-pound division, so the winner of Saturday’s fight could be next in line for a shot at the winner of an upcoming title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
Before Saturday’s event, which will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, the fighters will hit the scales on Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Video of the weigh-ins will be streamed live on the above video player.
