Jon Jones is already on the verge of making history. With a win over Chael Sonnen at UFC 159, the 25-year-old will tie the UFC light heavyweight record for consecutive title defenses.
Sonnen gets another chance to earn UFC gold on Saturday despite losing to middleweight champion Anderson Silva in his most recent outing. While he was the only fighter willing to battle Jones on short notice at UFC 151, it was really Sonnen‘s trash talking that led to this fight actually being booked.
In addition to the 205-pound title fight, middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher will try to get back on track in a heated co-main event matchup against one another.
Veteran heavyweights Roy Nelson and Cheick Kongo will also square off on Saturday. Likely on the line in that bout is a step up in competition and a fight with one of the division’s elite contenders.
A second light heavyweight fight between grapplers Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes as well as a lightweight contest featuring Jim Miller and Strikeforce import Pat Healy will round out the main card.
UFC 159 will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. On Friday, the fighters will hit the scales at 4 p.m. ET. Video of the weigh-ins will be streamed live on the above video player.
