UFC 159 closed out the last weekend of April, and the UFC will have a lot to think about between now and the next fight card, May 18’s UFC on FX 8. There’s little doubt that most of those thoughts will be focused on the health and recovery of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jones walked through Chael Sonnen in the main event of UFC 159, ending the fight with a minimal amount of effort while using a style that was more reminiscent of Sonnen‘s normal game plan than Jones’ more freewheeling nature inside the Octagon.
The bad news for Jones and the UFC arrived unexpectedly when Jones realized that he had sustained a pretty nasty injury at some point during the 4:33-long bout. The injury, a pretty gnarly broken left big toe, will surely keep Jones out of the mix for some time.
Jones wasn’t the only fighter to be injured during UFC 159. Yancy Medeiros injured his right thumb after landing awkwardly on the hand after being thrown by Rustam Khabilov.
Two fighters, Alan Belcher and Gian Villante, sustained eye injuries after accidental eye-pokes. Both of those fights were stopped early after the eye-pokes.
