Somewhere along the way, we forgot that Anderson Silva was human.

He is just an ordinary man who puts his pants on every morning like anyone else. Everything he does is predicated around providing the best possible future for his wife and children. Sure, he makes mistakes from time to time, but from every mistake, he learns and continues to grow into a better version of himself.

The only thing truly separating Silva from the average Joe on the street is his inexplicable gift for kicking ass.

True greatness is rarely witnessed in one’s lifetime, which is why fans are so passionate about Silva. Love him or hate him, we all get that same bubbly feeling in the pit of our stomachs every time the lights dim and DMX’s “Ain’t No Sunshine” reverberates throughout a sold-out arena. It’s a feeling one experiences when they are about to witness something unexplainable, something great.

At UFC 162, the magic finally ran out for Silva.

He was defeated for the first time in his UFC career by top middleweight contender Chris Weidman. The MMA community exploded in every direction immediately after the fight.

Some were stubborn enough to call the fight-ending punch Weidman landed “lucky” and refuse to give him his due diligence. Many believe Silva got caught up in the moment with his taunting and gave the fight away. Others have chosen to go off the deep end in conspiracy talk.

On Thursday, the UFC released a post-fight video blog of Silva’s moments after losing to Weidman. The individual shown in this video isn’t the invincible, otherworldly champion we’re used to seeing. It is simply a teary-eyed man dealing with the bitterness of defeat and turning to those closest to him for comfort.

In the words of the great Fedor Emelianenko, “the one who doesn’t fall, doesn’t stand up.” No one is perfect in this world, and it is inevitable that we all fall at some point in our lives. There is truly only one question that matters at this point.

How will Anderson Silva stand back up?
