UFC Fight Night 26 is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Chael Sonnen.
Each fighter will be looking to rebound from recent losses.
Shogun is coming off a loss to No. 1-ranked Alexander Gustafsson, and Sonnen is trying to get back in the win column after back-to-back losses to Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. While there is no shame in losing to any of those elite fighters, another loss will certainly hurt the veterans’ stock for future big fights.
There is certainly a lot on the line for each man on Saturday night.
There is also the storyline of Sonnen‘s trash talk of Brazilian fighters. Shogun Rua likes the idea of former training partner Wanderlei Silva to “retire” Sonnen on Saturday. There will be plenty of heat in this fight.
Both fighters have changed up their training for this fight. Sonnen is now at Reign Training Center with Mark Munoz, and Shogun has been honing his boxing with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach. That will add more depth to each fighters’ game heading in to the important bout.
The main event caps off a 13-fight card that will help launch the new 24-hour sports network, Fox Sports 1. It is a huge honor, and that will come with a lot of pressure. The Boston crowd will be excited when the two longtime contenders meet up in the main event.
Come back for live play-by-play and analysis from the night’s main event: Shogun Rua vs. Chael Sonnen.
