Gegard Mousasi is ready to return to 185 pounds, and he’ll do so against another former light heavyweight, Lyoto Machida, at UFC Fight Night 36.
Machida recently made his move to the middleweight division with a knockout win over Mark Munoz. That win made the former light heavyweight champion an instant contender in his new weight class, and another win on Saturday could put him in position to compete for another UFC championship.
Looking to steal the Brazilian’s momentum, Mousasi has only picked up one win inside the Octagon, an expected victory over an outmatched Ilir Latifi. Still, the former Strikeforce champion had the career resume to be matched with Machida and will try to take advantage of an opportunity to make a big move this weekend.
