In combat sports, injuries are a part of the process of putting together fights. However, the UFC seems to have been struck harder than usual with injures over the first half of 2012.
Already, three title fights have been impacted by injuries, while a heavyweight tilt between Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem was also cancelled due to a failed drug test.
The two biggest stars in the sport, middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre have still not competed at all in 2012 due to injuries. Silva is set to return against Chael Sonnen in July, but there’s still a possibility St-Pierre’s knee injury could keep him out of action until 2013.
