The UFC’s chopping block is getting some more work in this week. A report surfacing online has stated that four competitors have been cut following their loss at the UFC 157 event.
Bloody Elbow picked up on a report from Ian Bain of MMA Opinion claiming Brock Jardine, Caros Fodor, Jon Manley and Josh Neer have all been handed their walking papers. To further cement the news, Bloody Elbow pointed out that “their profiles no longer appear on the UFC’s website.”
Neer had suffered three straight losses in the UFC, including an action-packed decision loss to Court McGee at UFC 157. Neer has quite a bit of mileage on him for someone who’s only 30 but has been in and out of the UFC for years.
Fodor was brought over with the rest of the Strikeforce guys but lost a split decision to Canadian Sam Stout at UFC 157. The split-decision loss follows a submission loss to Pat Healy while in Strikeforce, giving Fodor back-to-back losses.
Jardine is also suffering from back-to-back defeats with losses to Rick Story and Kenny Robertson forcing the UFC’s hand. Jardine‘s loss to Robertson at UFC 157 was due to a modified kneebar while Jardine was on the offensive.
Manley competed against fellow The Ultimate Fighter castmate Neil Magny at UFC 157. Manley lost a unanimous decision and also his chance to compete in the Octagon for his next bout.
These cuts continue the trend of the UFC releasing fighters after suffering two or more losses, or in Manley’s case, a single loss. With more roster cuts expected on the horizon, I’d expect to see more safe strategies employed by fighters who are up on the scorecards.
