Shane Roller has retired from MMA, according to an announcement posted Monday on the lightweight fighter’s Twitter feed.

Roller, 33, lost to Jacob Volkmann by first-round submission at Friday’s UFC on FX 5 event. The setback was his fourth in his last five bouts and ran his UFC record to 2-4. He retires with an overall professional record of 11-7.
A heavy-handed wrestler who was a three-time All-American while wrestling for Oklahoma State University, Roller initially made waves in the now-defunct WEC, where he defeated standouts including Jamie Varner, Danny Castillo, Thiago Tavares and Anthony Njokuani. His final victory came at UFC 148 over John Alessio.
Roller also lost to current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, as well as title contenders like Anthony Pettis and Melvin Guillard.
There was no immediate indication of Roller’s future plans.
