After the recent departure of Nate Marquardt earlier this week, MMAJunkie.com reports that UFC middleweight, Chael Sonnen‘s indefinite suspension has officially ended.
The California State Athletic Commission suspended the outspoken UFC star earlier this year, when he was denied his license after undergoing testosterone replacement therapy prior to his title bout against Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The website also reports that during his testimony, Sonnen gave inconsistent responses.
Due to his suspension, Sonnen was prevented to coach alongside British competitor, Michael Bisping, on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter; the vacant position was offered to newly-acquired Jason “Mayhem” Miller instead.
It is uncertain when he will reapply for his license, but Sonnen’s manager, Mike Roberts, told MMAJunkie that a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in Las Vegas to discuss Sonnen’s future.
“We’re going to reevaluate it then,” Roberts said.
CSAC Executive Director, Geroge Dodd confirmed Sonnen’s name would be removed from the registry, which lists fighters who are under medical and administrative suspensions. Dodd added that in order for Sonnen to reapply, he’ll likely have to appear in front of a commission, and undergo rehabilitation.
And in light of Marquardt’s situation, Dodd added that future applicants will have to appear in front of the commission, as well as its medical advisory, to evaluate the necessity of testosterone therapy.
