UFC light heavyweight contender and former champion Rashad Evans has missed a second opportunity at wearing 12 pounds of gold for over a year due to circumstances out of his control.

However, don’t expect fellow 205-pound contender Dan Henderson to have any sympathy for “Suga.”

“I guess (UFC President) Dana (White) promised Rashad he was next for the title shot. But timing wise, it would have been better for me to fight Jones, and then have Rashad fight the winner,” Hendo told ESPN

Even though Henderson states that he is most likely next in line for a light heavyweight title shot, the Team Quest co-founder makes it clear he is not completely satisfied in the way the situation played out.

“That would have been better than having Rashad come right back after fighting Phil Davis, and it’s probably going to be pushed again if Rashad wins because he’s going to have to fight me pretty quickly as well. Dana hasn’t publicly stated that I’m next but that’s the word. We’ll see. The only fight that makes sense is a title shot, I was hoping to jump the line in front of Rashad, but I’ve got to wait until Rashad fights Jon Jones and then I’ll fight the winner.”

Injuries to both “Bones” Jones and Evans have delayed the heavily anticipated bout between the former Greg Jackson teammates twice, so it is tough to argue that Evans is not deserving of a title shot.

Henderson recently refuted White’s claim that he turned down a rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua after the two put on a five-round classic at UFC 139.

The former Olympian wrestler did the same when his boss told ESPN that Henderson turned down a fight with Lyoto Machida, and it is common knowledge that Hendo declined a fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in January.

Henderson also recently made it clear that the only man he would consider cutting to 185 pounds for is UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva

Beyond that, the 41-year-old living legend is content to wait for a light heavyweight title shot.
