It was over five years ago when Junior Dos Santos began participating in the sport of mixed martial arts for the very first time.

Dos Santos would go on to defeat Jailson Silva Santos in his mixed martial arts debut via technical knockout in Round 1 of action.

Dos Santos would win five of his next six fights before signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2008.

In his UFC debut, Dos Santos would defeat Fabricio Werdum and eventually move on to win five consecutive bouts.

Following his victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 131, Dos Santos earned himself a title shot against arguably the best heavyweight fighter in the world, Cain Velasquez.

Dos Santos and Velasquez will square off in just a few short hours at UFC on Fox in the main event of the evening.

In order for Dos Santos to dethrone the current champion, there will be some things he’ll need to accomplish when actions begins in front of the sold out Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

First things first, Dos Santos will at all costs want to avoid getting in a wrestling war with Velasquez.

Dos Santos hasn’t demonstrated effective grappling skills in the past while Velasquez is one of the best wrestlers in the heavyweight division.

If Dos Santos wants to be declared the new heavyweight champion he’ll have to keep the fight on his feet.

The longer the fight remains in the stand up, the more confident Dos Santos will become.

And, if Dos Santos can establish this game plan, we could very well see a new heavyweight champion crowned on November 12.
