Interest in the UFC on FX 8 fight card, or at least in the main event between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold, may have been ratcheted up a notch after today’s weigh-ins.
It’s hard to say what came over Rockhold during the staredown. Maybe it was the length of time Belfort took to get his weigh-in ritual completed. Maybe it was the fact that Belfort placed his fist a bit too close to Rockhold’s chin during Thursday’s staredown. Maybe it was the boos from the Brazilian crowd.
Whatever the cause, Rockhold wasted no time getting up close and personal with Belfort after Belfort stepped off the scale. Rockhold, with his hands by his side, walked toward Belfort and didn’t stop until he made contact with the former UFC champion. Belfort then shoved Rockhold back before the UFC handlers rushed in.
For good measure, Belfort dragged his finger across his throat.
Things will be interesting on Saturday night in Brazil.
