Looking to capitalize on his huge upset victory over Rick Story at UFC on Versus 4, Charlie Brenneman stepped into the Octagon for another Versus event and a bout with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

Brenneman looked desperate to take the fight to the ground from the start, but Johnson easily defended the takedown attempts and made “The Spaniard” pay for his unwillingness to stand. Johnson landed some big shots on the ground and finished the fight with a head kick at 2:49 of the first round.

In a press release obtained by Bleacher Report, Johnson said:

He was the first guy that made me nervous before a fight. His wrestling was the complete package, so I was preparing for it non-stop leading up to the fight. I prepared for everything coming into this fight and I wanted the win. I hit him hard quite a few times in a row and he didn’t look like he was all there. I landed that head kick and put him on the canvas. He looked done to me, but if that kick hadn’t of done it, the punches that would have come afterwards would have.”

Brenneman was upset with the stoppage. which did look premature, but things weren’t going well for the Pennsylvania native. With back-to-back wins, Johnson is ready for a step up in competition in the welterweight division.
