Talk about throwing salt in the wound.

WWE kingpin Vince McMahon has decided to provide his two cents on the UFC’s pay-per-view presence just a day after the promotion put on what was its worst ever PPV main card in a long while.

That’s right, it turns out that the internal criticism of Dana White, who said during the UFC 149 post-fight press conference that he was “embarrassed” and that “We can count on one hand how many shows actually sucked, and tonight is one more finger on that hand,” wasn’t enough.

When questioned about the UFC’s place in the pay-per-view world by The Hollywood Reporter, McMahon had this to say: “We’re in show business, they are a sport. Their ratings are abysmal.”

McMahon does go on to say, “They [The UFC] are in the pay-per-view business, and they do reasonably well there.”

Backtracking? Yes. But that doesn’t erase the “abysmal” comment.

McMahon offers his untimely criticism while scores of disgruntled fans wish like Hell they had never clicked the buy button on their remote Saturday night and while the UFC’s sagging PPV ratings have dropped off of late in the wake of higher prices and more events.

Though UFC president Dana White was pretty harsh about the PPV portion of UFC 149, he has never been one to receive external criticism with alacrity.

We’ll see if the comment warrants return fire, but for now, just add it to the heap of criticism left festering in the wake of the UFC 149 snooze-fest.
