Ronda Rousey‘s appeal to the mainstream world was her perceived invincibility, and while that notion has been shattered by back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, there is still an undeniable mystique to the former UFC bantamweight champion.
WWE Chief Brand Officer and on-screen personality Stephanie McMahon is one of the many who are still intrigued by Rousey, and she left no room for doubt over whether that has changed in a recent interview with ESPN’s His & Hers. Check out the clip here:
“I would love to add Ronda Rousey,” she said (h/t MMAMania.com’s Ryan Harkness for the transcription). “I know that she loves WWE and we certainly love her, so it would be a match, no pun intended, made in heaven. So hopefully one day we’ll have that opportunity.”
McMahon singing Rousey‘s praises is no surprise at this point. Since Rousey‘s appearance at SummerSlam 2014 (which was followed by an in-ring appearance at WrestleMania 31 in 2015), the daughter of Vince McMahon has been publicly courting Rousey to join the WWE. The attempts to woo her didn’t end after the loss to Holm (with McMahon stating she would be “welcomed with open arms” in December, per USA Today) and clearly didn’t end after her loss to Nunes.
And indeed, there is likely at least a bit of interest on Rousey‘s part. Speaking with Bleacher Report in 2016, Rousey discussed that she has been a WWE fan since childhood, pointing to Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt as her favorites of today.
So does that mean fans should anticipate her appearing at WrestleMania this Sunday? Probably not, as McMahon said she hadn’t spoken with the Rousey camp of late.
That said, Rousey appearing in the WWE makes a great deal of sense, and with so much chatter on that front over recent weeks, it wouldn’t be all that much of a shock if she crashed the ring Sunday.
