The lightweight division has been one of the most competitive collectives under the UFC banner for the better part of a decade. While there are no easy fights up and down the roster, the upper tier of the 155-pound fold is a veritable shark tank of dangerous finishers and elite-level talent who are all hunting for a shot at the lightweight crown. As is the case in any shoot ‘em up division, making ground of any sort is an achievement of sizable proportions, but when a fighter manages to work his way up the divisional hierarchy to reach a coveted top 10 ranking, that is something special … Read the Full Article Here

It has been an intense midsummer’s dream for UFC fans everywhere.

MMA‘s lead promotion hosted seven events since the first day of summer 2015 (June 21, for the record, please consult almanacs for confirmation). That includes the epic UFC 189 and the Ronda Rousey-fest that was UFC 190.

Now, there is UFC Fight Night 73, the final in a long chain of cards before the promotion takes a couple of breaks heading into the fall.

Whereas UFC 190, the event that preceded UFC Fight Night 73, had a spectacular headliner and really not much else, this Saturday’s event is the perfect opposite. It doesn’t have a lot of star power (especially in that main event), but it does have a lot of very talented, if lesser-known, athletes all up and down its roster.

In other words, this is the kind of card that this feature was conceived to help you navigate. Here are information capsules, predictions and viewing coordinates for every single one of the 13 fights going down this Saturday from Nashville, Tennessee.

Judgement day is coming for Anderson Silva.

The former longtime UFC middleweight champion will have his disciplinary hearing in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission due to his steroid test failures on Aug. 13.

However, Silva’s team believes there are inconsistencies in the drug tests, which will clear his name, MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported the news on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight

The 40-year-old Silva defeated Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in his return after suffering a gruesome leg injury against Chris Weidman at UFC 168.

After the bout, it was revealed that Silva had failed a pre-fight drug test for the anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Androstane. In February, NAC revealed Silva also flunked a post-fight drug test for Drostanolone.

While Silva’s team believes their are inconsistencies in the drug tests, NAC’s Bob Bennett told MMAFighting “I anticipate our findings to be accurate.”

Since Silva’s fight was held prior to July 1, when NAC’s more stringent performance-enhancing drug rules went into effect, Silva’s penalties will be under the old guidelines, which means a penalty of nine months to a year could be retroactively applied.

Meanwhile, the other half of the equation, Diaz, tested positive for marijuana metabolites after the fight, his third such failure in Nevada. Diaz is also on the Aug. 13 agenda, but his legal team is requesting a postponement, citing a scheduling conflict.

Martin Kampmann is leaving his post as head coach of Team Alpha Male.

Kampmann will leave the gym, the home of UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and several top contenders in lighter weight classes, by the end of the year, MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.

Unlike previous coach Duane Ludwig, who has traded barbs with the likes of Cory Garbrandt and others, Kampmann will leave on good terms with the fighters at the gym. A native of Denmark, Kampmann will depart for personal reasons, as his family doesn’t want to stay in Sacramento.

The gym’s owner, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber, says he’s going to take his time finding a new coach. Faber said he reached out to Kenny Florian, who expressed interest but was uneasy about leaving Los Angeles, where he has a broadcasting career; and to former featherweight standout Mark Hominick.

Kampmann plans on staying until the replacement is found.

Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit will meet up Down Under.

Lawler will defend his UFC welterweight title against the former UFC interim and WEC welterweight champ at UFC 193 on Nov. 14, MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight. The bout will most likely be the card’s main event.

Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter initially reported the possibility of the fight.

Lawler (26-10, 1 NC) is coming off his victory over Rory MacDonald at UFC 189 in one of the greatest fights in mixed martial arts history. Trailing 3-1 on the scorecards going into the final round, Lawler finished MacDonald in the fifth for his seventh win in eight fights since returning to the UFC in 2013.

Condit (30-8), meanwhile, has a reputation for exciting fights every bit as solid as Lawler. After more than a year out due to an ACL injury, Condit returned on May 30 and finished Thiago Alves in the second round of a fight in Brazil. That was the 28th win via finish out of Condit’s 30 career wins.

While the date and city are set, the UFC 193’s venue remains undecided.
