After destroying Cain Velasquez at UFC 188 to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum was being talked about as possibly the greatest heavyweight of all-time. His title reign quickly came crashing down, however, as he was brutally knocked out by current champion Stipe Miocic in his first title defense at UFC 198 last May.

Werdum will attempt to bounce back in the co-main event of UFC 203, an event headlined by Miocic defending his strap against Alistair Overeem, tomorrow night (September 10, 2016) when he takes on Travis Browne. “Vai Cavalo” feels as if he should’ve received an immediate rematch with Miocic, but he knows that tomorrow’s bout is now a must win:

“That’s the goal (to finish Browne),” Werdum told MMA Fighting. “I never saw someone say they want to win by decision. I think everybody wants a knockout or a submission. The speech is always the same. The quicker, the better. One minute, one round, two rounds, that’s better. I can’t think differently.

“I need this victory. It’s important for my goal to fight for the title again. I deserved an immediate rematch since I was coming off six wins in a row, but I knew the UFC wouldn’t give it to me. Winning this fight, I will deserve it. I will do everything I can to put on a spectacular fight to earn another title shot.”

Werdum and Browne have actually faced off once before back in 2014 in a fight that “Vai Cavalo” dominated before earning a title shot. Despite owning a win over “Hapa”, however, the Brazilian isn’t heading into the rematch overconfident:

“I can’t be overconfident in this fight,” he said. “I never entered a fight overconfident. My losses were based on things I did in training, and luck also plays out during the fight. I’m coming off a loss so I can’t be overconfident. I might have a slight advantage because I won the last fight, but it’s nothing big.

“It’s not an easy fight just because I defeated him before,” he said. “I can’t underestimate Travis Browne. He’s also coming off a loss so he wants this win to move forward. I’m sure that a win will put me right into a title fight. That’s not the case for him, but he definitely wants to win.”

Do you see Werdum getting back to his winning ways?

The UFC’s first show from Madison Square Garden in New York City may have just got it’s main event, and it’s a big one.

According to reports from MMA Insider Dizz on Twitter, negotiations are ongoing to get the UFC’s featherweight and lightweight champions to clash for the 155-pound title, however, McGregor wants to keep his title and defend it early next yer:

Dizz also reports that ‘The Notorious One’ also turned down a movie roll to participate in the UFC’s massive Madison Square Garden event:

McGregor (20-3) is coming off of a huge win over Nate Diaz in their welterweight rematch at UFC 202, where the Irish champ took home a majority decision over the Stockton Native after 25-minutes of pure madness.

UFC President Dana White went on record prior to UFC 202 that ‘win or lose’ McGregor would drop back down to featherweight to defend his title. It appears now that White may have had a change of heart.

Alvarez (28-4) is coming off of the biggest win of his career in which he knocked out the now-former 155-pound champ Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 95, to become the new lightweight champion and secure his first ever UFC title.

The former Bellator lightweight champion has lost only one contest since joining the UFC, a unanimous decision loss to Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone back in 2014, and has been campaigning heavily for a big money fight with the Irish phenom.

Will Alvarez receive his ‘gimme fight’, as he refers to it, with McGregor?

UFC 205 takes place live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino hasn’t forgotten about Ronda Rousey. Rousey hasn’t competed since shockingly losing her title to Holly Holm last November, and it’s unclear when she’ll return to action, but Justino still feels as if the two have unfinished business. Despite being constantly asked about a potential super fight with Rousey, Justino isn’t bothered and she hopes that the “Rowdy” one will take the initiative in making the fight a reality:

“I respect all the girls regardless of who they are,” Justino told MMAjunkie. “But I believe there’s a ‘novela’ (Brazilian soap opera) between Ronda and I that we need to finish. I think that’s a fight everyone wants to watch.

“I think they ask the same (questions) to her. I think everywhere, they ask the same thing. That’s why I think this fight needs to happen. So that we can finish our careers saying we did that great fight and not that we should have done that fight. We did it. So let’s wait. If she takes that initiative. It’s up to her.”

“Cyborg” made her long-awaited Octagon debut last May, demolishing Leslie Smith in just over a minute in a 140-pound catchweight bout. She is now gearing up for a main event clash with Lina Lansberg at UFC Fight Night 95 later this month. As far as Rousey goes, Justino said that losses happen in sports, but that the former 135-pound queen needs to learn how to deal with a setback:

“I think after that Holly fight, she’s still trying to reorganize; I don’t know if she’s back to training,” Justino said. “Losses can happen for any athlete. That’s sports. One day you win, and the next you lose. But you need to know how to deal with that.”

Do you see this fight ever taking place?

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald has recently made headlines around MMA for a variety of topics, with most of them centering on his potentially ground-breaking deal with Bellator MMA following a 0-2 stint to close out his UFC career.

Not surprisingly, “The Red King” has since called out his former employers on a litany of topics such as fighter pay and treatment that are currently at the forefront of MMA’s most heated discussions.

Unfortunately, however, those headlines are going to be the extent of what we’re going to hear from this new, outspoken version of MacDonald for now, as the broken nose he suffered at against Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 and re-broke against Stephen Thompson this June will keep him out of the Bellator cage until sometime in summer 2017.

When he does begin training to return, MacDonald will make some changes to his camp. He told Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour‘ that he was going to follow the many elite fighters who have eliminated hard sparring from their training:

“I want to make sure my nose is completely healed. I didn’t do that last year after the Robbie fight. I just kind of was too hungry to get back in there and start punching people, and getting into sparring matches and stuff. I didn’t go about it smart, so this time I’ve got to take the proper (approach).

“I don’t know if it’ll be summer, but I really have to be smart about it and I have to lay off sparring. I’m really going to tone that down in my career, in general, because I’ve been doing this since I was 14 years old sparring full-grown men, so I’ve done thousands upon thousands of rounds. I’ve really just got to cool that down at this point in my career.”

When he does finally step into a Bellator cage, MacDonald plans to bring the house down with performances, where he predicts he’ll be running through opponents with dominating ease, especially in his native Canada:

“One-hundred percent, we’re coming to Canada. And like I was tweeting [Sunday], these shows are going to be big. This is going to be a legit show. You’re going to go there and it’s going to be an experience. You’re going to be talking about it on the car ride home and the next day, saying ‘oh wow, that was an amazing show, I can’t wait for the next one.’

“And I can guarantee you, I’m going to be putting on a strong fight game when I come out there for Bellator. I’m going to be dropping people like flies out there. I’m going to be coming forward and bringing the action. Without a doubt, people are going to be going crazy.”

After almost two years of speculation, hype, and disappointment, former WWE heavyweight champion Phillip ‘CM Punk’ Brooks will finally make his awaited (?) Octagon debut against green prospect Mickey Gall on the main card of this weekend’s (Sat., September 10, 2016) UFC 203 from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Brooks was originally unveiled as the biggest pro wrestling star to cross over and attempt mixed martial arts at December 6, 2014’s UFC 181, but a struggle to find him a suitable opponent coupled with delays in his development and a subsequent injury have pushed the bout off until now.

Few are giving Punk much of a chance against Gall, even though the 24-year-old only has two professional fights and two amateur bouts on his resume. To his credit, Gall, who was originally found on Dana White’s ‘Looking For A Fight,’ has finished three of those four total bouts, including his quick win over Mike Jackson in his UFC debut at February’s UFC Fight Night 82.

Regardless of if Punk can actually put up a fight (or even win), the fight is finally approaching, and the MMA world will be tuning in no matter what their feelings are about Brooks’ controversial debut. However, let’s hope that the fight isn’t put into any kind of jeopardy, as Gall showed up sporting a decent amount of stitches over his right eye in today’s (Sun., September 4, 2016) CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall Joe Rogan Preview from the UFC.

Check it out starting at the 1:15 mark below:

The UFC may be the promotional powerhouse for mixed martial arts (MMA) for now, but with the recent Bellator signings of world-class combatants such as Rory MacDonald jumping ship to enemy territory, that title currently held by UFC President Dana White and company may soon be in jeopardy.

Bellator’s steady rise is due to more than just the signings of former UFC talent, however, as surging home-grown prospects such as Michael ‘Venom’ Page are leading the charge as well.

While speaking to the media, courtesy of Bloody Elbow, ‘MVP’ recently expressed interest in seeing a joint show between the rival MMA promotions claiming it would be incredibly beneficial for the sport:

“Friendly competition is good, and if the UFC and Bellator could somehow work together, and do joint bouts it would be incredible,” Page said.

“It would bring me back to those WWE days. Man, it was immense, I remember watching those shows and that changed the game for them. If the UFC and Bellator could just shake hands and work together on a few things then it would be better for the fighters, better for the fans and better for everyone.

That’s that man–I’d be down with that.”

Paige is currently undefeated in his MMA career (11-0), and is coming off of a grizzly second round knockout victory over Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 last month.

‘MVP’ will take on Fernando Gonzalez live on Spike TV from the SAP Center in San Jose, California on November 19, 2016.
