UFC women’s bantamweight contender Ailín Pérez insists she was well within her rights to celebrate in the way she did this past weekend.

The Argentine fighter featured on the preliminary portion of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card in Paris, France. She was hoping to extend her winning run to five at the expense of Darya Zheleznyakova.

Pérez did just that, once again showing her grappling superiority. This time, however, she didn’t require the scorecards, forcing a tap from her Russian opponent with an arm-triangle choke inside the first round.

Rather than the performance, though, the main talking point seemingly came in the aftermath, which saw “Fiona” celebrate by twerking in the face of her opponent moments after the submission.

Pérez Rejects ‘Disrespectful’ Claims After Twerking In Defeated Opponent’s Face

Pérez’s celebration split opinion in the community, with some branding it a disrespectful move on the part of the Buenos Aires native.

But the Argentine was quick to dismiss that notion, instead claiming to have been subjected to disrespect from her opponent pre-fight.

“My friend @arielhelwani, Darya said some very disrespectful things about me before the fight so I had to do it,” Pérez wrote. “I would love to tell you more about it on your NEW show #AilinNurmagomedov

And that wasn’t the only post-fight tweet that saw a Nurmagomedov theme.

In another, the victorious Argentine claimed to have “Khabib’d the Russian” inside the Octagon at Accor Arena.

“I Khabib’d the Russian and then twerken on her #UFCParis#AilinNurmagomedov

Plenty of Pérez’s other posts saw her targeting flyweight contender Tracy Cortez, who got her own back following “Fiona’s” weight miss after previously being branded unprofessional by the Argentine for needing to cut her hair off to make the limit.

It remains to be seen what will come next for Pérez, but she certainly has her sights set high.

Prior to missing weight, the rising bantamweight suggested she’d call for UFC CEO Dana White to place her in a main event for the first time following the Paris card, preferably against Kayla Harrison.

Despite looking rough on the scale 36 hours earlier, rising contender Ailin Perez delivered another impressive showing inside the Octagon at UFC Paris.

Squaring off with Russian standout Darya Zheleznyakova in The City of Light, Perez promptly put her clinch game and grappling skills to work. Approaching the final minute of the round, Perez managed to muscle Zheleznyakova down to the mat and quickly worked her way into position for an arm triangle. Locking in the hold from half guard, ‘The Iron Lady’ had no choice but to tap out, handing Perez her first finish inside the Octagon.

Official Result: Ailin Perez def. Darya Zheleznyakova submission (arm triangle choke) at 3:52 of Round 1.

Immediately following the tap out, Perez popped to her feet and jumped straight into her patented twerking celebration. Adding insult to injury, she practically did it right in Zheleznyakova’s face and readjusted even as the Russian tried to move away from the Argentinian’s ample backside.

UFC women’s bantamweight Ailín Pérez is hoping for big things to be in her future should she have her hand raised in the French capital this weekend.

Pérez lost her UFC debut at the promotion’s very first event in Paris two years ago, falling via submission to Stephanie Egger in the second round. Since then, the Argentine has reeled off three straight wins to enter the rankings at 135 pounds.

Now, she’ll return to France in pursuit of righting the wrong from 2022 and further advancing her ambitions on mixed martial arts’ biggest stage.

To achieve victory inside the Accor Arena at the second time of trying, Pérez must stall the surge of Dariya Zheleznyakova, a 9-1 bantamweight who boasts history competing on French soil owing to her days under the Ares FC banner.

Despite that, “Fiona” expects an easy night at the office come fight night on Saturday. And after making a statement, she plans to put her crosshairs on a big name in the division…

Pérez Targeting Harrison Clash: ‘That’s The Fight I Need To Prove I’m Worthy!’

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Pérez predicted a comfortable victory in Paris and reiterated her desire to hand Kayla Harrison the first defeat of her UFC career.

“Fiona” outlined her intention to request a maiden main event from CEO Dana White following this weekend’s event, and be it Harrison or another of the division’s high-ranked names, the 29-year-old wants to stake her claim for a title shot.

“After finishing Darya, I’m going to ask my friend Dana White for a main event fight, preferably against Kayla Harrison,” Perez said in Spanish (translation by Danny Segura). “We’re still insisting on that fight because that’s the fight I need to prove I’m worthy of fighting for a belt.

“If not, Norma (Dumont) if she stops running from me. She only wants to fight with people above her in the rankings, and that’s OK, but part of the reason why she’s in the rankings is that she hasn’t fought and lost to me. So Dumont or Julianna Peña, who’s a punching bag.”

For now, Harrison has another assignment to focus on ahead of an expected title shot down the line.

After dominating Holly Holm on debut at UFC 300, the two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time PFL title winner will meet Ketlen Vieira at UFC 307 early next month. The winner is expected to challenge whomever emerges from the championship co-main event between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Peña with the title.

With that in mind, Pérez may be a few wins away from earning a crack at Harrison. But should she defend her spot in the top 15 against her Russian foe on Sept. 28, a bigger assignment would no doubt await her next time out.

Ailin Perez calls for UFC headliner with either Kayla Harrison or Norma Dumont: 'If she wants to fight, I’m down'

After securing her third-straight win inside the Octagon, rising fan favorite Ailin Perez is ready for her first main event.

Perez moved her overall record to 10-2 at UFC 302, securing a unanimous decision victory over Joselyne Edwards.

With her popularity rising, ‘Fiona’ thinks it’s about time she gets a headlining spot on one of the promotion’s future cards—and she has a pretty big name in mind for her opponent.

“What I want is to fight in a five-round main event, with a preference to be against Kayla Harrison,” Perez told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “We want that fight because she’s the best fighter in the division and the person with the biggest name after me.

“Sorry girls, whether you like it or not, Ailin Perez is making waves on all platforms.”

Considering Perez is yet to break into the bantamweight top 15 while Harrison is sitting securely at No. 4, it’s safe to say that the Buenos Aires native has a lot of work to do before standing across the Octagon from the two-time Olympic Gold medalist.

However, ‘Fiona’ does have another name in mind—that being No. 10 ranked contender Norma Dumont. She even has the perfect way to market the fight to the UFC’s testosterone-fueled audience.

“Yeah, because if they give me Norma, I’ll fight her five rounds, no problem,” Perez said regarding a five-round bout being her priority. “That’s the war of the asses, and she’s been running for a while, so if she wants to fight, I’m down. She’s not booked, and neither am I, so let’s go.

… But yeah, ideally, I would like for it to be against Kayla Harrison or Norma Dumont, so I can kick her ass five rounds.”

Ailin Perez insists she is ready for the next step up in competition

After coming up short in her UFC debut against Stephanie Egger at featherweight, Ailin Perez has secured three wins in a row at 135, besting Ashlee Evans-Smith, Lucie Pudilova, and the aforementioned Joselyne Edwards.

Perhaps it’s time for Perez to take that next step up the ladder.

“I feel I can fight in a main event now,” Perez said. “I have the conditioning, and I’ve found the balance in this weight cut. I know how to cut the weight without suffering too much. When someone is confident they’re going to be world champion, they’re going to grab whatever opportunity, kill it, and come out on top.”
