UFC Athlete Says They Will Be Retiring from Twerking: "I May Not Twerk Again!"

Jordan Leavitt is done twerking!

What, did you think we were talking about another fighter?

Twerking has become a popular post-fight celebration inside the Octagon in recent years, but now that ‘The Monkey King’ is just a few short months away from his 30th birthday, the UFC lightweight standout thinks it may be time to put his booty-poppin’ ways behind him.

“I think I might be moving past twerking—really,” Leavitt told Helen Yee. “Yeah, I’m almost 30, you know? Shaking your ass in your 20s is completely cool. Like, I mean, people judge you, but no one really cares what you do in your 20s… I may not twerk again”

Don’t fret fight fans, ailin perez will continue twerking after each win

These days, the celebratory twerking is best left to bantamweight standout Ailin Perez. Since making her UFC debut in 2020, the Argentinian has amassed an impressive 5-1 record inside the Octagon with her dominant decision victory over Karol Rosa at UFC 311 being her best performance yet.

But as impressive as she’s been in the cage, fans have become increasingly enamored with ‘Fiona’ courtesy of her post-fight twerking that has often taken social media by storm.

However, not everyone appreciates’ Perez’s unique celebration. Following her win over Darya Zheleznyakova in Paris, ‘Fiona’ notoriously twerked right in her opponent’s face which apparently resulted in her being banned from fighting in the country.

“I guess I got banned from France for twerking,” she wrote on X in response to an article that claimed she “would be officially suspended.”

It’s still unclear if Perez is allowed to compete in The City of Light, but considering how quickly the clip went viral, we doubt the fast-rising 135’er has any regrets about it.

Ailin Perez Faces Backlash as Tracy Cortez Promises Consequences: 'I'm From the F*cking Hood'

Things are getting heated between Tracy Cortez and Ailin Perez.

The rivalry between Cortez and ‘Fiona’ has been brewing ever since UFC Denver last year when Perez infamously mocked Cortez after she came up short in a short-notice headliner against former two-time strawweight queen ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas. Perez also slammed Cortez for having to cut her hair to make weight for the bout.

That didn’t sit well with Cortez, particularly after Perez stepped on the scale 0.6lbs over the bantamweight non-title limit for her clash with Darya Zheleznyakova at UFC Paris.

“Y’all won’t catch me talking sh** here on social media BUT my oh MY how the tables have turned. 136.6 [pounds] lol,” Cortez wrote on X.

That prompted Ailin Perez to call out Cortez on social media shortly after earning a first-round submission victory over Zheleznyakova in The City of Light.

Hey @TracyCortezmma, if you want to fight, let’s do it,” Perez wrote. “You fought at 135 before. I’ll even make weight this time for you, I promise or you scared and are going to block me like you do your replies on X.”

Tracy Cortez slams ailin perez following chance encounter at airport

Fast forward to this week, it appears as though the feud between two of the UFC’s fastest-rising females has taken a turn for the worse. Or perhaps the better depending on your perspective.

Returning to the Octagon at UFC 311 in Los Angeles, Perez scored her fifth-straight win under the UFC banner, securing a unanimous decision victory over Karol Rosa.

Following the fight, ‘Fiona’ had some fighting words for Cortez who was in attendance at the event.

That’s trash. Don’t name her in this conversation right now,” Perez said when asked about her issue with Cortez at the post-fight press conference. “Get better quality people to have beef for me while I’m here, all right. First of all, make weight first, then come talk to me.

“I’m not gonna just let anybody ruin my moment right now. I’m in the gym with my son morning, afternoon, and evening training all the time. I’m not gonna let some girl hop on the bandwagon and try to [benefit] on my name, someone dirty nonetheless.

gettyimages 2175286608 612x612 1

Recently, Cortez took to social media, revealing that she had a chance encounter with Ailin Perez at the airport. Still heated from the incident, Cortez claimed that ‘Fiona’ didn’t stand by any of the sh*t she’s been talking and instead tried to shake her hand.

“Just landed… because I ran into my best friend the girl that (twerking pose), I’m not gonna do it,” Cortez said in a clip posted by MMA Mania. “I was like, ‘No, what the f*ck?’ Boss b*tch, you’re gonna do f*cking something? She didn’t do sh*t, she tried to shake my hand. P*ssy a** f*cking b*tch, if you’re going to say something, stick to it. I don’t do sh*t for clout. I’m from the f*cking hood, if you gonna talk sh*t, stand by it. Coz I’m standing ten toes down b*tch, when I see you…”

With Cortez regularly competing at flyweight and Perez working her way up the bantamweight rankings, it’s unclear if we’ll ever actually get a payoff to any of this.

Ailin Perez Outworks Karol Rosa to Score Fifth-Straight Win Inside the Octagon - UFC 311 Highlights

Ailin Perez scored the biggest win of her career thus far, besting Karol Rosa at UFC 311 and skyrocketing herself into the bantamweight top ten.

Perez got off to a strong start, scoring an early takedown and pinning Rosa to the mat. Before long, Rosa scrambled her way back up and used the time remaining in the opening round to light up Perez’s legs with a series of calf kicks.

Rosa looked to pick up right where she left off in the second, but a flying knee attempt late in the round gave Perez the opening she needed to tie up her opponent and get the fight back to the ground with over 90 seconds to go. Rosa kept Perez locked into her half-guard, preventing the Argentinian from capitalizing on the dominant position.

Potentially down 0-2 going into the third, Rosa came out with a little more intent, swinging heavier and getting back to her lead leg attack. That prompted Perez to tie up against the fence near the halfway point of the round, but Rosa separated herself and got right back to work in the center of the Octagon.

Rosa’s work in the third was good enough to lock up the round, but her lack of urgency ultimately led to Perez notching a fifth-straight win inside the Octagon.

UFC women’s bantamweight contender Ailín Pérez insists she was well within her rights to celebrate in the way she did this past weekend.

The Argentine fighter featured on the preliminary portion of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card in Paris, France. She was hoping to extend her winning run to five at the expense of Darya Zheleznyakova.

Pérez did just that, once again showing her grappling superiority. This time, however, she didn’t require the scorecards, forcing a tap from her Russian opponent with an arm-triangle choke inside the first round.

Rather than the performance, though, the main talking point seemingly came in the aftermath, which saw “Fiona” celebrate by twerking in the face of her opponent moments after the submission.

Pérez Rejects ‘Disrespectful’ Claims After Twerking In Defeated Opponent’s Face

Pérez’s celebration split opinion in the community, with some branding it a disrespectful move on the part of the Buenos Aires native.

But the Argentine was quick to dismiss that notion, instead claiming to have been subjected to disrespect from her opponent pre-fight.

“My friend @arielhelwani, Darya said some very disrespectful things about me before the fight so I had to do it,” Pérez wrote. “I would love to tell you more about it on your NEW show #AilinNurmagomedov

And that wasn’t the only post-fight tweet that saw a Nurmagomedov theme.

In another, the victorious Argentine claimed to have “Khabib’d the Russian” inside the Octagon at Accor Arena.

“I Khabib’d the Russian and then twerken on her #UFCParis#AilinNurmagomedov

Plenty of Pérez’s other posts saw her targeting flyweight contender Tracy Cortez, who got her own back following “Fiona’s” weight miss after previously being branded unprofessional by the Argentine for needing to cut her hair off to make the limit.

It remains to be seen what will come next for Pérez, but she certainly has her sights set high.

Prior to missing weight, the rising bantamweight suggested she’d call for UFC CEO Dana White to place her in a main event for the first time following the Paris card, preferably against Kayla Harrison.

Ailin Perez Twerks in Her Opponent's Face Following 1st Round Arm Triangle - UFC Paris Highlights

Despite looking rough on the scale 36 hours earlier, rising contender Ailin Perez delivered another impressive showing inside the Octagon at UFC Paris.

Ailin Perez

Squaring off with Russian standout Darya Zheleznyakova in The City of Light, Perez promptly put her clinch game and grappling skills to work. Approaching the final minute of the round, Perez managed to muscle Zheleznyakova down to the mat and quickly worked her way into position for an arm triangle. Locking in the hold from half guard, ‘The Iron Lady’ had no choice but to tap out, handing Perez her first finish inside the Octagon.

Ailin Perez

Official Result: Ailin Perez def. Darya Zheleznyakova submission (arm triangle choke) at 3:52 of Round 1.

Immediately following the tap out, Perez popped to her feet and jumped straight into her patented twerking celebration. Adding insult to injury, she practically did it right in Zheleznyakova’s face and readjusted even as the Russian tried to move away from the Argentinian’s ample backside.

With the win, Perez is now 4-1 under the UFC banner and 11-2 overall.

Following the submission, in classic Pérez style, she started to twerk, notably doing so in the direction of her opponent.
