A tremendous UFC women’s strawweight match-up has been added to the UFC 238 pay-per-view (PPV) card.

The UFC has announced that former 115-pound title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz returns to action against Alexa Grasso:

Kowalkiewicz has had a rough time inside the Octagon as of late. She has suffered back-to-back losses in her last two fights. The first being a knockout defeat to Jessica Andrade, followed by a decision defeat to Michelle Waterson.

Now, she’ll look to get back into the win column against Grasso, who is also struggling at the moment. Grasso comes off a submission defeat to Tatiana Suarez last May. With a win over Kowalkiewicz, it would be a big way for Grasso to get back on the right track.

Check out the updated UFC 238 card below:

  • For vacant UFC bantamweight championship: Marlon Moraes vs. Henry Cejudo
  • Women’s flyweight: (C) Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Eye
  • Women’s strawweight: Tatiana Suarez vs. Nina Ansaroff
  • Bantamweight: Jimmie Rivera vs. Petr Yan
  • Heavyweight: Tai Tuivasa vs. Blagoy Ivanov
  • Women’s strawweight: Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Alexa Grasso
  • Women’s flyweight: Katlyn Chookagian vs. Joanne Calderwood
  • Women’s strawweight: Felice Herrig vs. Xiaonan Yan

UFC Fight Night 129 went down tonight (Saturday, May 19, 2018) from the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile. The evening was headlined by a welterweight contender matchup between the surging Kamaru Usman and grappling ace Demian Maia. Maia had early success with his hands as well as putting Usman in some tricky spots with his takedowns. But the 40-year-old tired and had less and less to offer, shooting telegraphed shots that Usman more and more easily stuffed. It was not a thrilling contest but an important win for Usman, who positions himself for a number-one contender fight, at worst.

The co-feature saw strawweight prospects Tatiana Suarez and Alexa Grasso square off to see which of them is ready to graduate to contender status. It turned out to be Suarez. The former freestyle wrestling standout leaned on her roots, quickly grounding Grasso. She soon moved to the back and sunk in the rear-naked choke for the impressive first-round victory.

In the co-main event of last night’s (Sat. May 19, 2018) UFC Fight Night event from Santiago, Chile, No. 9-ranked women’s strawweight Alexa Grasso and No. 12-ranked Tatiana Suarez did battle inside the Octagon.

Grasso came into the fight off a unanimous decision victory over Randa Markos in August of last year.

Prior to that fight she suffered the first loss of her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career to Felice Herrig via unanimous decision. A win over Suarez would’ve put her back on the road to a title opportunity.

Suarez is undefeated in her short MMA career, racking up a five-fight win streak in addition to having won The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 (TUF 23). Her last Octagon appearance saw her pick up a decision win over Viviane Pereira. A win over a notable name such as Grasso would be huge for the 27-year-old.

Immediately Suarez utilized her superior wrestling ability and got Grasso onto the ground. She was able to get Grasso’s back and lock in the rear-naked choke. Grasso had no other choice but to tap out. What an impressive statement from Suarez.
