Paul famously made the transition to boxing, fighting fellow influencer KSI twice and Floyd Mayweather in 2021, winning none of those contests, but he has also previously mentioned he would be interested in also competing in MMA. Paul had previously called out lightweight Paddy Pimblett, following the classic Paul playbook of picking opponents much smaller than themselves.

While Paul has not had the most successful into combat sports, he did enjoy a good amateur wrestling career in high school. Now though, Paul has taken up professional wrestling and made a very successful leap into the WWE, being well received by fans.

As for Volkaonvski and Adesanya, the latter is expected to make his return in September of this year to headline UFC 293. The opponent is set to be the winner of fellow middleweights Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis, who will fight on UFC 290.

Also on 290, will be Volkanovski, who is headlining the event against interim featherweight champion, Yair Rodriguez. Should he win, it will mark ‘The Great’s fifth successful title defence and will be yet another 145lb contender squashed, leaving very little in terms of viable options for the Australian. Volkanovski could find himself moving up, attempting to capture the lightweight title after his extremely impressive first attempt against Islam Makhachev earlier this year, pushing the Dagestani to the very limit across five rounds.

Conor McGregor and Alexander Volkanovski war of words baddest jackass in the sauna

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor and reigning featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski share a back-and-forth on social media regarding a potential fight between the pair.

From time to time, Conor McGregor will share absolute gold (some far from it) to his nearly 10 million Twitter followers. From his own renditions of songs, voice notes berating YouTubers or a good old fashion call-out, ‘The Notorious’ can be an entertaining follow on social media.

During his most recent social media outburst, McGregor would ignite a back-and-forth with Volkaonski, challenging the Australian to fight.

Let’s do it at lightweight”- Volkanovski Tweeted, which was not directed towards McGregor.

Lol. Afraid?”- McGregor would say in a now-deleted Tweet in a response before following up with – “the ufc p4p number 1 (ye right) needs weighing scales and specific divisions to compete against me. So who’s really who and what’s what? The bmf title, the baddest jackasses in the sauna title. Little bums. Little one division, never champion bums! Nothin bad about ya’s!”

“Anytime. Anywhere. Any weight!” McGregor responded before also Tweeting, “Yeah you say it, but I did it. I’ve fought at middleweight, Welterweight, lightweight and Featherweight.”

What’s next for Conor McGregor and Alexander Volkanovski?

Following his closely contested fight with Islam Makhachev in February, Volkanovski is moving back down in weight to face interim champion, Yair Rodriguez, in the main event of UFC 290 on July 9. Rodriguez is coming off an impressive win over the hard-hitting Josh Emmet on the undercard of Volkanovski Vs. Makhachev.

As for McGregor, following coaching opposite Michael Chandler on The Ultimate Fighter, which began airing last night, the Irishman is supposed to square off against the American. However, there is a lot of questions on when, or if, the matchup will take place regarding McGregor’s situation with USADA as well as his out-of-cage activities.

Who wins, Conor McGregor or Alexander Volkaonvski?

Alexander Volkanovski talks dream UFC fight with Conor McGregor it would be pretty special

Laying claim to victories over former undisputed UFC featherweight champions, Jose Aldo, and Max Holloway, current division kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski admits he is still irked by the fact he missed out on a fight with the only other former division kingpin, Conor McGregor – describing a pair of him and the Dubliner as “pretty special”.

Volkanovski, the current featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is slated to return to the Octagon in July during International Fight atop a UFC 290 pay-per-view event – taking on interim gold holder, Yair Rodrîguez in the duo’s championship unification clash.

Featuring at UFC 284 in February of this year in a homecoming title siege, Volkanovski suffered his first promotional loss, dropping a close, competitive unanimous decision defeat against Islam Makhachev in his pursuit of the undisputed lightweight crown.

Alexander Volkanovski holds wins over every featherweight champion in UFC history

Racking up a win over inaugural UFC featherweight champion, Aldo during his run to the crown himself, Volkanovski has landed a trio of victories over another former champion, Holloway. And played up a potential fight between himself and McGregor – if the Dubliner was at his prior prime at the featherweight limit.

“The only champ I haven’t fought in the featherweight division is Conor McGregor,” Alexander Volkanovski told The MMA Fan Podcast. “Conor McGregor in his prime in featherweight division obviously would be an all-time – I’m sure everyone would want to see that fight now. If we could make that happen right now, somehow get prime Conor vs. prime Volk, it would be pretty special.”

“Everyone’s going to talke about the money, and that’s why you only want that fight,” Alexander Volkanovski explained. “Yeah, of course, there’s money in it, the circus around it, the hype, all of that. But you talk about legacy, you know then I would have beaten every featherweight champion, and I plan on having the most defenses as well.”

Alexander Volkanovski scoffs at fourth fight with Max Holloway: ‘Yeah, that doesn’t sound very exciting’

Volkanovski

UFC featherweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski isn’t interested in a fourth fight with perennial contender Max Holloway.

Volkanovski is currently slated for a unification bout against current interim featherweight titleholder Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290 on July 8. If ‘The Great’ walks away with his title intact, he could be staring down the barrel of a tetralogy with Holloway, a possibility the Australian superstar finds less than exciting.

“It’s a hard fight to sell,” Volkanovski told The MMA Fan Podcast. “Three fights, you know, three wins with a guy and then doing a fourth one, and then what if he does win? What are you going to do? We’re going to have to go another two times? Obviously, that wouldn’t happen. I definitely believed and proved I’ve got his number.

Since 2019, Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway have shared the Octagon with one another three times. On all three occasions, ‘The Great’ came out on top. Their 2020 rematch at UFC 251 was by far the closest meeting between the two with many fans, and even UFC President Dana White, suggesting that Holloway did enough to walk away with the gold. That prompted the promotion to book a trilogy bout two years later. Volkanovski walked away with a unanimous decision win and a 3-0 record against the Hawaiian.

Last month, Max Holloway delivered a dominant performance against Arnold Allen, solidifying himself as the division’s top contender. Having already received and failed to capitalize on three title opportunities, the victory essentially leaves Holloway in limbo.

“How do you sell it?” he continued. “I mean, never say never, but like I said, I want fights that are going to excite me. Honestly, right now, I need to see more maybe, maybe it would be different, but yeah, that doesn’t sound very exciting. It’s not very fun to talk about.”

If Alexander Volkanovski leaves the T-Mobile Arena with his title intact at UFC 290, ‘The Great’ will likely run back his instant classic with reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. The two squared off at UFC 284 with Volkanovski just narrowly falling short of dethroning the Dagestani Destroyer.
