YouTuber and UFC fan MikeyT sneaked into UFC 284 and walked out with main event fighters.

Last weekend the UFC made their return to Australia with the country’s greatest-ever fighter, Alexander Volkanovski as the main event. Of course, the event would sell out quickly with many fans missing out on tickets. However, one eager fan tried his luck and attempted (successfully) to sneak in without a ticket.

YouTuber MikeyT created fake photography credentials paired with UFC polo shorts and simply walked passed several security checkpoints, all the way to the cage side. The Australian’s luck didn’t stop there, capturing quite phenomenal footage, managed to walk out with fighters on their way to the cage.

Beginning with heavyweight Justin Tafa, MikeyT then managed to walk tag along with hometown hero, Volkanvovski, as he made his way to the cage to an electric arena. Then, as Makhachev was patted down, the content creator appeared just meters away from the Russian and would enjoy some of the best seats in the house for the fight.

MikeyT reacts to event

At the end of the video, MikeyT reacted to the night, expressing his shock at what had just happened.

“Okay guys so I am still in disbelief at what we have just gone and done,” he said. “I got changed real quick so it didn’t look like I was walking around in the media outfit. I am incredibly lost for words at how that all just played out, I originally thought I would just sneak into the event.

“But the fact how we managed to do all those things, get literally ringside, go backstage and even walk out with the two main event people. That was just incredible.” (H/T Mirror)

UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev reacts to the UFC’s latest rankings update.

Prior to Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski’s UFC 284 bout, the fight was billed as the promotion No.1 and No.2 pound-for-pound fighters squaring off – with the winner securing the top spot.

Makhachev headed into the fight as a heavy favorite, with many feeling that the 31-year-old size and strength, paired with his elite grappling, would prove too much for the 5’6 Volkanovski who was moving up a weight class. However, while not doing enough in the judge’s eyes, Volkanovski put on a phenomenal performance and at times had the champion in real trouble throughout the fight.

While the No.1 spot was set for the winner, in the latest rankings update Volkanovski remained as the UFC P4P king.

Islam Makhachev reacts

In response to the latest update, Makhachev took to social media to protest the decision – even suggesting that the UFC had a bias against Russian fighters.

About the rankings, I never expected justice and still don’t”, said Makhachev. “Because we saw the example with other fighters, [Magomed] Ankalaev, Petr Yan. [We] saw the attitude towards us, always. The main thing, I flew 13,000 kilometers there [and] defeated their champion. They raised my hand, and with a raised head, confidently with the belt flew home. (H/T MMANews)

Makhachev is eluding to Ankalaev and Yan’s most recent fights against in which they would lose, decisions which many disagreed with.

While there have been discussions of an immediate rematch, there has been no official announcement on what direction the UFC plans.

Do you think Islam Makhachev should be ranked No.1?

Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev Daniel Cormier

At UFC 284, it was a battle of world champions as featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski faced the lightweight titleholder Islam Makhachev. It was a close fight, with Islam Makhachev taking the decision win. Former two-division world champion Daniel Cormier has little interest in a rematch between these two.

On his podcast, DC&RC the UFC hall of fame athlete explained his point of view on a potential rematch:

“I don’t necessarily know if I need to see a rematch right away. I think what Alexander Volkanovski did was good. I don’t know if Islam needs to run it back right now because the reality is he won the fight.”

No rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev

Daniel Cormier was highly impressed with the work from the UFC featherweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski, he added:

“People always seem to want to discredit Alexander Volkanovski. Not anymore… This guy has more belief in himself than any fighter I’ve seen in a really long time, and he should because he has the fighting ability to compete against anyone.”

On the ongoing pound-for-pound debate, Cormier said:

“There’s a world in which, at the end of this, Volkanovski could still be the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world because pound-for-pound says, does your fighting style translate between weight classes? It showed on Saturday that his fighting style does translate between weight classes.” [Transcript courtesy of Middle Easy]

UFC 284 saw two world champions put it all on the line over a five-round war. Dagestan’s Islam Makhachev was getting the better of Australia’s Volkanovski on the feet and struggled to impose any of his world-class grappling skills. Alexander Volkanovski was able to repel his Russian opponent and earn moments of control plus ground and pound throughout the fight. Both men will most likely next defend their divisional crowns rather than fight each other again.
