It’s safe to say this Saturday’s (February 11, 2017) UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York has received more than its fair share of criticism from MMA fans and media alike.

After all, the card features the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title fight, but it doesn’t involve the consensus top women’s featherweight in the world, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino. While the UFC offered Cyborg several chances to participate in the fight, she ultimately turned them down and then failed a USADA drug test, leaving her UFC future in question for now.

The fact that the promotion went on to book a women’s featherweight title bout anyway was (and still is) viewed as a sort of money grab by the UFC to add legitimacy to a card that badly needed it.

Longtime former middleweight champion and MMA legend Anderson Silva was added to the card on somewhat short notice against knockout slugger Derek Brunson, a bout where “The Spider” would seem to have little to gain but everything to lose considering he hasn’t secured an official win since October 2012.

All of that has many fans understandably questioning if they will buy the pay-per-view. Will you?

Conor McGregor Responds To Anderson Silva’s Challenge

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva is gearing up to take on No. 8-ranked Derek Brunson in the co-main event of this weekend’s (Feb. 8, 2017) UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, but he recently expressed his interest in fighting reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Silva said that the challenge was not out of disrespect, but rather his respect for McGregor’s fighting technique, and his desire to challenge himself.

It seems as if the Irishman has gotten wind of Silva’s challenge, and he didn’t appear to show as much respect, although as always, he said he’d fight anyone as long as the ‘numbers are right’:

“(Expletive) every one of them,” McGregor said during a recent Internet pay-per-view interview. “You see Anderson (Silva)? What’s Anderson talking about? What the (expletive) is Anderson Silva talking about? He keeps mentioning my name over and over again. Look, I’ll fight any one of them. Make sure the numbers are right, make sure the situation is right. I’ll fight any one of them at any given time.”

Although the potential scrap may be considered an intriguing one, it’s unlikely to come to fruition as Silva has competed at both 185-pound as well as 205 pounds, while McGregor has spent the majority of his career fighting at 145-pounds and 155-pounds, also fighting Nate Diaz twice at welterweight. Silva, however, did say he would be willing to cut below the middleweight limit to make the fight happen.

What do you make of the chatter between Silva and McGregor?

The UFC is back this Saturday night (February 11, 2017) UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the main event set to decide the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight champion when former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm meets touted striker Germaine de Randamie.

The main card also houses two pivotal bouts in the middleweight division, with decorated longtime former champion Anderson Silva set to take on blitzing knockout striker Derek Brunson in the co-main event. “The Spider” is looking for one more chance to win UFC gold before he retires, but his friend and training partner Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will also look to continue his arduous quest towards a title shot of his own when he meets veteran Tim Boestch.

Overall, a new division will find its first direction and one of the UFC’s most revered will see some things mixed up towards the top as well, making this weekend’s event from Brooklyn a unique one.

Anderson Silva Willing To Cut Down To Fight Conor McGregor

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva is set to return to action against Derek Brunson at Feb. 11’s UFC 208 from Brooklyn, New York, but he recently made headlines when he expressed interest in fighting reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

In a recent interview with MMAFighting.com, Silva explained why he wants to share the Octagon with the “Notorious” one, also saying that he’d be willing to cut down in weight to meet McGregor:

“I’d like to test myself against Conor because he’s an interesting martial artist,” Silva said. “His stand-up game is an intelligent game. Not because he’s champion now, but for the martial arts challenge. I’d like to see how these stand-up techniques, his and mine, would mix, and how that would go. But not to fight for a belt or anything like that. For the challenge, an interest, that thing about knowing how a fight like this would go. I believe he can make 176, 178 pounds, right? That’s a weight I can get. We started this work and I got to 174, but we thought it would be better now to do these tests.”

McGregor, who has previously held the UFC’s 145-pound title, fought twice at 170-pounds last year, but will likely remain at lightweight for the foreseeable future.

Silva, on the other hand, has been a middleweight for the majority of his career, but he has fought at light heavyweight multiple times. Although he says he could cut down, he would certainly be the much larger fighter as opposed to McGregor.

It’s hard to see a bout between Silva and McGregor coming to fruition, but is it a bout you’d like to see?

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva made headlines earlier today (January 13, 2017) when he expressed his interest in a rematch with reigning 185-pound titleholder Michael Bisping. Silva also said said that he had ‘five or six’ fights left on his current UFC contract, and that he planned to complete it.

Before he works his way up to a rematch with Bisping, however, “The Spider” will return to action against No. 8-ranked Derek Brunson at Feb. 11’s UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

UFC President Dana White announced the news on his official Instagram account.

The once dominant Silva has fallen on rough times as of late, as he hasn’t won a fight since Oct. 2012. He stands at 0-4-1 in his last five bouts, and he’s coming off of a decision loss to light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier last July. Despite his recent losing streak, Silva remains one of the most well-known names in the sport as well as one of the most iconic champions of all-time.

Brunson, on the other hand, is coming off of a disappointing stoppage loss to Robert Whittaker last November. Prior to that, however, he had won five straight including four by way of stoppage.

UFC 208 is set to be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie.
