Anderson Silva rips Israel Adesanya GOAT talk after UFC 293 I'm in charge of this

Amid claims that Israel Adesanya had surpassed former undisputed middleweight champion, Anderson Silva as the divisional greatest ever ahead of his eventual UFC 293 title loss to Sean Strickland, the Brazilian has issued a reminder to the former champion, insisting that he is “in charge” of the GOAT conversation still.

Silva, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the banner of the UFC – who recently received his Hall of Fame induction earlier this summer, called time on his professional mixed martial arts career back in October 2020, following an eventual TKO loss to common-foe, Uriah Hall.

Since switching his focus to professional boxing in the form of a trio of clashes against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Tito Ortiz, and Jake Paul – Silva shared the Octagon with Adesanya in an impromptu 2019 headliner in Australia – suffering a unanimous decision loss.

Anderson Silva appears to take shots at Israel Adesanya after UFC 293

And posting a highlight-reel of his on his official Instagram account, Brazilian veteran, Silva first appeared to take shots at Adesanya off the back of his judging loss to Strickland last weekend, before swiftly deleting and altering the caption.

“I’m the one in charge of this sh*t here, and you’re not going to open your mouth again to compare yourself to me in this sh*t,” Anderson Silva wrote on Instagram. “Do you understand? I’m the one in charge of this sh*t here.” (Transcribed by Sherdog)

Drawing comparisons to Brazilian fan-favorite, Silva amid their similar striking prowess and dominance atop the division during their respective middleweight title runs, Adesanya was branded as the greatest middleweight of all time ahead of UFC 293 by a host of personalities, however, dropped his championship belt in shocking fashion to massive underdog, Strickland in a legacy-altering defeat

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion and incoming Hall of Fame inductee, Anderson Silva has confirmed that he is currently holding talks with an unspecified promotion in Japan – to make his final outing in mixed martial arts competition.

Silva, 48, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the banner of the UFC, departed the Dana White-led promotion back in October 2020, suffering an eventual fourth round TKO loss to the now-retired, Uriah Hall in a headlining clash. The loss came as Silva’s third consecutively.

Returning to combat sports back in June 2021 in a professional boxing capacity, Anderson Silva travelled to Mexico, landing a one-sided split decision win over former world champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

In September of that year, Silva also landed a stunning opening round KO win over former undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz

Last October, however, Silva dropped a unanimous decision loss to controversial influencer, Jake Paul – losing a judging loss over the course of eight rounds to the Ohio native.

Anderson Silva reveals talks for final MMA fight in Japan return

Yet to officially close the door on his professional mixed martial arts career, Brazilian icon, Silva revealed earlier this week that talks were currently being held for him to make a return to Japan for one final fight.

“I’m now focused on these two projects and pretty soon we’ll have something nice regarding fighting,” Anderson Silva told MMA Fighting. “We’re in talks with Japan for a possible last MMA fight in Japan.”

“It makes all the sense,” Anderson Silva explained. “I started my career internationally there, so we probably want to end it there, too. Let’s see if that happens.” We’re waiting for these movie works to end – the projects I’m doing. So, we go to Japan and sit down to talk with the people interested in taking this fight to Japan and end my MMA career there.”

Set to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame later this summer, Silva’s most recent win came in the form of a February 2017 decision triumph over middleweight division staple, Derek Brunson in Brooklyn, New York.

Israel Adesanya best middleweight of all time over Anderson Silva with UFC 287 win Jon Anik

Israel Adesanya has firmly passed former undisputed middleweight champion, Anderson Silva as the greatest middleweight fighter of all time according to UFC play-by-play lead, Jon Anik – who claims the strength of schedule and second round KO win over Alex Pereira solidify his claims.

Taking main event honors at UFC 287 over the course of last weekend, Adesanya managed to reclaim the undisputed middleweight title with a stunning second round knockout win over defending champion, Pereira.

Forced to return to the middleweight limit for the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career, the Nigerian-Kiwi had dropped his crown to Pereira back in November of last year at UFC 281, suffering a fifth round TKO loss at the Octagon fence.

Rallying and surviving a striking onslaught from Pereira at UFC 287 over the weekend, Israel Adesanya countered at the fence, stopping the Brazilian with a massive right hook counter, sending him to the Octagon canvas.

Heralded for his victory – namely by UFC welterweight Matt Brown following his knockout win, Adesanya, who has been touted as one of the top-5 greatest of all time, has now eclipsed the above-mentioned, Silva as the best middleweight to ever grace the sport.

“In my humble opinion, [the UFC 287 win] cements Israel Adesanya as the greatest [middleweight] of all time,” Jon Anik said on ESPN First Take. “There are people who can still argue Anderson Silva is the greatest middleweight champion of all time, and in terms of the title defenses, that is okay.”

“But, I sit here in 2023, and not just argue for Adesanya’s case as one of the best pound-for-pound guys right now,” Anik explained. “I think he’s the greatest middleweight champion of all time on his strength of schedule, and based on this win.”

Israel Adesanya landed a win over Anderson Silva back in 2019

Sharing the Octagon with former middleweight champion, Silva back in February 2019 in the main event of UFC 234, City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya managed to land a unanimous decision triumph against the former pound-for-pound number one.
