How did everybody know this would end by KO in round two?!

Anderson Silva (31-4) easily handled Yushin Okami (26-6), and just continued to prove that he is the pound for pound greatest fighter on the planet.

The two had an intense staredown and no glove touch was offered from either fighter.

The Brazilian came out for Round 1 in typical Anderson Silva fashion, where he threw almost nothing and just looked to get Okami’s timing.

Toward the end of the first round, Silva hit Okami with a left high kick that rocked him, but Okami was saved by the bell.

Silva looked ready to go as Round 2 started. He pushed the pace and opened up right away.

Silva then began dropping his hands, daring Okami to hit him. As he was doing that, he was able to throw a straight right hand and drop Okami.

He let him up right away, not looking to finish.

After that, the exact same thing happened, but Silva went to finish this time and was able to end the fight at 2:04 of Round 2.

I don’t think it can really be argued about who the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter is anymore. Anderson Silva is on a 15-fight win streak, 14 in the UFC, he’s defended his title nine times in a row and he’s demolished everyone in his path.

What could possibly be next for the greatest fighter of all time?

In the third bout of the pay-per-view portion of UFC 134, Ross Pearson went up against the undefeated Edson Barboza in a lightweight matchup.

The fight started off with Barboza swinging his legs , but Pearson pushed forward and landed a couple of good punches. Pearson then landed a left hand that stunned Barboza for just a moment.

Pearson continued to press forward and landed a left hand. Barboza found himself against the cage, but quickly circled away from it. Pearson then ripped away at Barboza’s body, and Barboza answered with a front kick. Barboza then nailed Pearson with a very hard spinning back kick to the body.

Pearson then put four punches together, and anchored it with a left hand that pushed Barboza backwards. They continued to trade, but the accuracy of Pearson beating out the speed of Barboza. Pearson went for a takedown as the round came to an end, but was unable to finish it off.

On Saturday, August 27, the Ultimate Fighting Championship made its return to Brazil for the first time since 1998.

In the main event of the evening, reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be making yet another defense of his title when he takes on Yushin Okami. Silva will be entering this fight at nearly a 6-1 favorite. Will “The Spider” make another successful title defense, or will Okami be able to overcome the odds and dethrone Silva?

The evening’s co-main event will feature a rematch between “Shogun” Rua and Forrest Griffin. In their first outing, Griffin surprised many people when he was able to submit Rua in the third round of his UFC debut.

In other pay-per-view action, Brendan Schaub will be looking to move his way further up the heavyweight ranks when he takes on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Edson Barboza will be looking to further his unbeaten streak against Ross Pearson, and Luiz Cane will welcome Stanislav Nedkov in to the UFC.

UFC 134 Results: Rousimar Palhares Finishes What He Started Against Dan Miller

A bizarre beginning gave way to a fantastic, if one-sided, finish as Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares took care of Dan Miller, earning a victory by unanimous decision at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

Just as Palhares lived up to his nickname “Tree Stump”, so too did the fight live up to its billing as an action packed slugfest, though it did not seem like it would at first. Palhares put the hurt on Miller early and often, knocking the American back with a kick to the jaw and coming in hot with a series of blows before dropping Miller hard to the mat.

Miller managed to recover from that barrage, if only for long enough to get his wits about him. “Toquinho” came right back, knocking Miller with a right jab, a knee to the body and then a kick to Miller’s head. That was enough to send Miller tumbling and to give Palhares the perfect opportunity to put the fight to bed.

Which he and Miller both thought he had after Palhares put the hurt on Miller with his fists of fury. Referee Herb Dean appeared to break up the fight, at which point “Toquinho” straddled the Octagon fence, thinking he had scored a knockout.

Dean soon informed him otherwise and the fight was back on. That brief respite gave Miller new life, as he immediately took Palhares down and began wailing on him, hoping to end the bout when he had the chance.

Unfortunately for Miller, he wasn’t able to finish off Palhares right then and there. Palhares went on to dominate the final two rounds of competition earning his sixth UFC win, this time by unanimous decision. Miller, meanwhile, returns to the US with his UFC record even at 5-5.

Anderson Silva Beats Yushin Okami at UFC 134

Anderson Silva knocks out Yushin Okami at UFC Rio.Anderson Silva is still the best fighter in the world, and on Saturday night his Brazilian fans got to see it first hand.

Silva put on one of his textbook striking displays against Yushin Okami at UFC 134, winning a second-round technical knockout, thrilling the crowd in Rio de Janeiro and making a strong case that he’s the greatest champion the UFC has ever seen.

Silva is now 31-4 in his mixed martial arts career, including 14-0 in the UFC. His 14-fight streak is unmatched in UFC history.

The victory was revenge of a kind for Silva, as the last time Silva lost it was to Okami in a 2006 fight before either man had signed with the UFC. That loss was a controversial disqualification when Silva landed an illegal kick, but this time there was nothing controversial about it, it was just Silva showing he’s the best in the world at what he does.

“I train hard for the best guys in the world,” Silva said afterward. “I’m ready to fight.”

The first round didn’t have a lot of action, as Silva spent the early part of the round feeling Okami out on his feet and finding his range, and Okami and Silva clinched against the cage without landing any significant strikes for the middle part of the first round. It wasn’t until the end of the round that Silva started to let his strikes go, including a big head kick in the closing seconds, and that was enough to give an otherwise close round to Silva.

At the start of the second round Silva really started to bring it on, knocking Okami flat on his butt with a right jab, then letting Okami get back up only to batter him with more punches, including another right hand to knock Okami down again. This time Silva followed Okami to the ground and battered him repeatedly until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.

Silva’s striking is on another level from the rest of the MMA world. He showed on Saturday night why he’s the best.

Highly-touted welterweight prospects Erick Silva and Luis Ramos locked horns on the UFC 134 undercard after Silva’s original opponent, Mike Swick, was forced off the card due to a knee injury.

Silva became the first Jungle Fight champion last October and was signed to the UFC earlier in the year.  The X-Gym and Team Nogueira fighter has never been finished in his career and the Brazilian holds black belts in both jiu-jitsu and judo.

With Swick’s injury, Ramos was tabbed as a replacement just three weeks prior to the fight.  The Nova Uniao product entered with an experience advantage, but has faced lesser competition than Silva.

Silva opened looking for a takedown, but Ramos stuffed it and chased with strikes.  A huge right hand from Silva dropped Ramos and a flurry of punches forced referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.

With the victory, Silva moves to 13-1.  In his post fight interview Silva was thankful of the opportunity to fight in the promotion.  He credited his teammates for his performance.

Official result: Erick Silva def. Luis Ramos via TKO (strikes) at 0:40 of Round 1.
