Usually capable of stopping his opponent with his hands, in relatively timely fashion to boo, Team Kaobon mainstay, Tom Aspinall grabs a career-highlight victory over former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski — submitting the veteran with a second round rear-naked choke.

Improving to 10-2 professionally and 3-0 in the UFC, scoring finishes in each of them — the Wigan native landed some notable damage in the opening round on the feet, splitting the Belarusian’s nose in the early goings. Appearing quite strong in the clinch, Aspinall utlisied the fence to control Arlovski for the majority of the opening frame.

Shooting with a somewhat surprising double-leg early in the second, Aspinall pushed Arlovski back to the fence again, before taking his back with ease, slipping in a swift rear-naked choke and forcing the tap.

Whilst admitting event headliners, Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis are above him, Aspinall noted his interest in facing the winner of tonight’s scrap between Chris Daukaus and Aleksei Oleinik.

Below, catch the highlights from Aspinall’s third Octagon victory since his debut last summer.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will meet rising contender Tom Aspinall in a key divisional matchup on February 20.

The fight is sure to act as a big test for both competitors. Arlovski will be 42 by the time he next steps in to the octagon, and will be looking to continue his recent run of success. ‘Pitbull’ has won back-to-back fights, and three of his last four, posting victories over Ben Rothwell, Philipe Lines, and Tanner Boser. Prior to his hot streak, he found himself on a 2-8-1 stretch. A win in his next fight against a streaking prospect could finally silence those who doubt he has anything left in the tank.

After making an impressive debut in 2020, England’s Aspinall will make his third UFC appearance against a man with nearly 5-times his fight experience and over 10-times his number of UFC bouts. Aspinall opened a number of eyes with two quick finishes in his first year in the promotion, first stopping Jake Collier in 45 seconds before scoring a 95-second TKO over Alan Baudot. Overall, the fast-rising prospect has registered 5 straight first-round stoppages since being disqualified for an illegal elbow in May 2016.

The February 20 Fight Night event is shaping up to be a big one for the heavyweight division. It is set to be headlined by the recently re-scheduled Derrick Lewis vs Curtis Blaydes matchup, and also features longtime contender Aleksei Oleinik taking on Chris Daukaus in another ‘Veteran vs Prospect’ showcase. As of this time, the event does not have an announced location or venue.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has explained how he has remained relevant despite his advancing age.

The 41-year-old picked up an impressive win over surging heavyweight contender Tanner Boser at UFC Vegas 13 this past weekend. Arlovski was awarded a unanimous decision victory by the judges over his 29-year-old opponent. UFC president Dana White heaped praise on the Bulgarian who continues to improve, he said.

“Listen, that guy has been here for 20 years, and to still be competing at that level and be pulling off a win tonight its pretty impressive. It seems like to me that his chin has gotten better, which is not supposed to happen. It doesn’t work that way. But yeah, he looked good tonight.

“He’s going to be walking rough for the next few days, but for his age, what that guy has been through and everything else, he looked good tonight. I was happy for him. He’s a good guy.”

Speaking to media post-fight Arlovski explained how he continues to keep winning after more than 20 years as a professional MMA fighter.

“Listen, in the heavyweight division, three rounds, you can win with one punch – it’s lights out,” Arlovski said. “I have to be smart. I’m not (a) 20-years-old kid, so I need to use my brains now.”

Arlovski believes a improved ability to stick to a game plan has allowed him to extend his career at the top of the sport.

“As a fighter, for my career, my problem was I never stick to my game plan,” Arlovski said. “I was not so nice. Thank God I stick with my game plan (now) and I have a great team and great coaches. I’d say I can do this another three, four, five years.”

The UFC legend saw a bit of himself in Boser who he beat at UFC Vegas 13 to make it three wins in four fights.

“I looked at him (and) I reminded myself I was the same once – his hair, his highlights, he’s young, hungry, strong, and I knew he was going to step to me and try to knock me out,” Arlovski concluded.
