Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will meet rising contender Tom Aspinall in a key divisional matchup on February 20.

The fight is sure to act as a big test for both competitors. Arlovski will be 42 by the time he next steps in to the octagon, and will be looking to continue his recent run of success. ‘Pitbull’ has won back-to-back fights, and three of his last four, posting victories over Ben Rothwell, Philipe Lines, and Tanner Boser. Prior to his hot streak, he found himself on a 2-8-1 stretch. A win in his next fight against a streaking prospect could finally silence those who doubt he has anything left in the tank.

After making an impressive debut in 2020, England’s Aspinall will make his third UFC appearance against a man with nearly 5-times his fight experience and over 10-times his number of UFC bouts. Aspinall opened a number of eyes with two quick finishes in his first year in the promotion, first stopping Jake Collier in 45 seconds before scoring a 95-second TKO over Alan Baudot. Overall, the fast-rising prospect has registered 5 straight first-round stoppages since being disqualified for an illegal elbow in May 2016.

The February 20 Fight Night event is shaping up to be a big one for the heavyweight division. It is set to be headlined by the recently re-scheduled Derrick Lewis vs Curtis Blaydes matchup, and also features longtime contender Aleksei Oleinik taking on Chris Daukaus in another ‘Veteran vs Prospect’ showcase. As of this time, the event does not have an announced location or venue.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has explained how he has remained relevant despite his advancing age.

The 41-year-old picked up an impressive win over surging heavyweight contender Tanner Boser at UFC Vegas 13 this past weekend. Arlovski was awarded a unanimous decision victory by the judges over his 29-year-old opponent. UFC president Dana White heaped praise on the Bulgarian who continues to improve, he said.

“Listen, that guy has been here for 20 years, and to still be competing at that level and be pulling off a win tonight its pretty impressive. It seems like to me that his chin has gotten better, which is not supposed to happen. It doesn’t work that way. But yeah, he looked good tonight.

“He’s going to be walking rough for the next few days, but for his age, what that guy has been through and everything else, he looked good tonight. I was happy for him. He’s a good guy.”

Speaking to media post-fight Arlovski explained how he continues to keep winning after more than 20 years as a professional MMA fighter.

“Listen, in the heavyweight division, three rounds, you can win with one punch – it’s lights out,” Arlovski said. “I have to be smart. I’m not (a) 20-years-old kid, so I need to use my brains now.”

Arlovski believes a improved ability to stick to a game plan has allowed him to extend his career at the top of the sport.

“As a fighter, for my career, my problem was I never stick to my game plan,” Arlovski said. “I was not so nice. Thank God I stick with my game plan (now) and I have a great team and great coaches. I’d say I can do this another three, four, five years.”

The UFC legend saw a bit of himself in Boser who he beat at UFC Vegas 13 to make it three wins in four fights.

“I looked at him (and) I reminded myself I was the same once – his hair, his highlights, he’s young, hungry, strong, and I knew he was going to step to me and try to knock me out,” Arlovski concluded.

UFC president Dana White could only praise Andrei Arlovski following his win last night.

Arlovski took on rising prospect Tanner Boser in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 13 on Saturday. Despite being 41 years of age — and 12 years the senior of Boser — Arlovski enjoyed an impressive performance and managed to earn the unanimous decision victory over the Canadian.

And when asked for his thoughts on Arlovski’s win in the post-fight press conference, White had particular praise for the former champion’s chin.

“Listen, that guy has been here for 20 years, and to still be competing at that level and be pulling off a win tonight its pretty impressive,” White said (via MMA Junkie). “It seems like to me that his chin has gotten better, which is not supposed to happen. It doesn’t work that way. But yeah, he looked good tonight.

“He’s going to be walking rough for the next few days, but for his age, what that guy has been through and everything else, he looked good tonight. I was happy for him. He’s a good guy.”

With that victory, Arlovski is on a winning streak again for the first time since early 2018. He has also won three of his last four outings overall.

Another title shot seems unlikely at this point, but the Belarusian can certainly continue fighting top-level opponents at this rate. And as far as his chin is concerned, he is certainly showing to be more durable later on in his career as he has only suffered one knockout defeat in his last 11 fights.

In the UFC Vegas 13 co-main event we have a crossroads fight in the heavyweight division. MMA legend Andrei Arlovski is looking to make it two wins on the bounce. The 41-year-old will need to get by surging contender Tanner Boser who will be hoping to stretch his own winning run to three. Who’ll get the victory? Let’s find out…

Round 1: A really tentative start from both men. As the first minute closes out Tanner Boser throws a low leg kick which is nicely checked by Andrei Arlovski. Boser continues to go low with his kicks. Arlovski comes over the top with a nice counter. He goes high with a kick that is blocked by Boser who tries one of his own moments later. He then lands a nice overhand left – the most significant strike of the fight. Not a lot is happening. Both men are waiting for the other to go first. A real kick heavy first round. Boser has probably been more effective with his low kicks but nothing really for either fighter to brag about. As the final seconds tick down Arlovski scores with a huge punch before the horn sounds.

Round 2: Arlovski and Boser trade low kicks at the start of round two. More than 90 seconds into the second stanza and it’s still all low leg kicks. Arlovski goes high with a tricky kick. Boser tries one of his own but it doesn’t quite hit the mark. The pair clash and it appears the veteran got the better of the exchange. Arlovski follows it up with a straight right down the pipe. Boser is a bit more energetic now but he’s not really getting off with anything. He eats a heavy inside leg kick from Arlovski. Boser swings wildly over the top, misses and Arlovski tries to make him pay up the middle but seems to miss too. The final 10 seconds burst to life. Boser scores a nice body shot but he’s counters well. The 41-year-old tries a spinning attack as round two comes to a close.

Round 3: This fight is on the line right now and both men seem to recognize that. A much better pace at the start of round three. Boser is pressing forward. He continues with the leg attacks but is doing a better job of mixing in his strikes up top. Arlovski doesn’t like it and tries to regain the forward momentum but its stopped by a spinning back-fist from his opponent. Boser touches him with a hook round the guard of the former champ. Arlovski swarms forward. He follows it up with a big shot over the top. Boser is still rattling off those leg kicks on a badly bruised leg of Arlovski. The legend steams forward again to land some big shots. This fight is going to the judges.
